No doubt the Top 6 is a very powerful batting unit now, but the bowling remains a massive concern. The seamers are decent but not top class and whether Rashid makes the 2027 World Cup remains to be seen....and there is no one even close to him as back up.Congrats England. This is a fire side you have with Cherrington at the helm.
Hats off
What about the T20s?No doubt the Top 6 is a very powerful batting unit now, but the bowling remains a massive concern. The seamers are decent but not top class and whether Rashid makes the 2027 World Cup remains to be seen....and there is no one even close to him as back up.
Why aren’t they pushing Rehan more?No doubt the Top 6 is a very powerful batting unit now, but the bowling remains a massive concern. The seamers are decent but not top class and whether Rashid makes the 2027 World Cup remains to be seen....and there is no one even close to him as back up.
Cause he's a batter these daysWhy aren’t they pushing Rehan more?
I suppose if they are picking him now, the plan is that Rashid will carry on playing until then, but while we will of course miss Root when he retires (and with a busy schedule in all formats I don’t suppose he’ll carry on after 2027), a quality batter is easier to replace for us than a quality spinnerNo doubt the Top 6 is a very powerful batting unit now, but the bowling remains a massive concern. Buttler will surely retire then too. But Smith, Duckett, Brook and Bethell represents a good core who should be around for a while.I suppose if they are picking him now, the plan is that Rashid will carry on playing until then, but while we will of course miss Root when he retires (and with a busy schedule in all formats I don’t suppose he’ll carry on after 2027), a quality batter is easier to replace for us than a quality spinner
Mahmood was very good, Carse was a bit expensive, but he at least looked a genuine wicket threat (he took 4 in 3 games and also was unlucky with some bad drops coming off his bowling). Not sure ODIs are his best format, but I don’t think there’s anything to worry about wrt to his Test form, I watched him play for Durham the other day and I thought he was very good in helping them to force a win on a roadI hope Rashid can play until hes 40+, cos the rest of our bowlers are crap. Carse looks a shadow of the bowler he was in 5 tests last winter. And injuries have taken the sharpness off Mahmood. 3-0 to us, but what would have happened against a side who can catch?
You could argue the second ODI was only close because of England's abject fielding that day (well Duckett's especially). The other 2 were not.I hope Rashid can play until hes 40+, cos the rest of our bowlers are crap. Carse looks a shadow of the bowler he was in 5 tests last winter. No ton today alas but one of the greats of the format for sure.Jos still a gun in this format
