Well, I've all along maintained we're not as bad as everyone on here seems to be making out, and put my money where my mouth is with a fiver on us to win the current game against SL...
And a good call it proved...

Not at Number 3. Anyway I think Adam Hollioake should be given a go, he's looked like a totally different player since he came back into the game...but his stats beg the question: Why was he dropped in the 1st place?

I hope it's not some psycopathical obsession. Hopefully it's just cricket tapes...
It's them in action and also their bowling actions so I can work on mine...I mean my LFM action is based on McGrath's and it works and my SLA one is based on Tufnell's

I was able to make it out to the Gabba for yesterday's game and was a bit disappointed by it all.

Sri Lanka gave up the chase very early and only slogged when the bonus point was in danger. It was not the Sri Lanka that I'm used to.

In other thoughts, England needs to find a new no.3 as Irani has been a complete failure. Popular with the crowds though. The England top 3 got out to very soft dismissals. Hussain and Stewart played very well though Hussain was dropped early. Blackwell was also very good.

The Sri Lankan bowling looked very thin. Fernando was quick but inaccurate. He also took an excellent reflex caught and bowled. Vaas was good and I wondered why Arnold was not given more overs. The catching was ordinary but the ground fielding sound.

The England bowling effort was good. Irani was expensive and Blackwell didn't get a bowl at all. Harmison was impressive as was Anderson. I still think Caddick needs to be put out to pasture but that's just me. He did a funny thing by signing a guy's watermelon that he was wearing as a hat.

The Sri Lankan batting wasn't great. Too slow and they gave up too easily. Jayawardene was classy and Arnold was OK. Samaraweera seemed wasted batting at 8. Kaluwitharana needs to come in at 7 or 8 as his best days are behind him.

The English fielding was very good and Collingwood added some zip and took a great catch.

It was good for England to finally get a win. Sri Lanka must improve if they are to have any chance in this tournament.

sri lanka will do better when Kalu and JAyasuria fire, although i would like to see sangakarra open next game and have Kalu in middle order till he finds his feet on Aussie pitches

I remember someone (an Indian supporter) posting on this board somewhere about how Nasser Hussain should be dropped from the ODI team...after England had won! Now you don't say that about a guy who top-scored in his latest match and who handled an inexperianced bowling attack and still kept the opposition a long way from reaching the target!

Also I agree with The Argonaut in that I think Caddick just needs to go. He doesn't bowl well under pressure and often he's just useless.

Agreed, although you could argue that without Gough he needs to step up and be that main man. I am still a fan though - come on guys we need some experience in the side!!

But he shouldn't need someone at the other end to bowl well, he doesn't have Goughie with him at Somerset yet does ok....he is representing his country at the higest point and playing against the best side in the world at present...many people would dream to be in his place.

Also like someone said...he needs to step up and take over from Gough, because quite frankly iam doubting we will ever see him again, so does that mean Caddick will retire because he wont have Gough at the other end???

A Bowler's job is to take Wickets...Caddick hasn't done that since the Tour of New Zealand...Frankly I think he needs a kick up the arse, to show that he's got to perform like the other bowlers to stay in the team. I mean look at Hoggard...1 Wicket in 2 Tests and he's dropped...Caddick has...6 at 49.66 a piece...admittedly his average is the 4th Best of the England Bowlers (which includes the Injured Jones and Giles) but that is simply not good enough to stay in the team in my opinion. Also with Hoggard, I think he needs to perform for Yorkshire to prove he's back.

How true, hadn't thought of that until now, but it is right.

Maybe what it is is he needs someone else to "compete with" - he certainly doesn't get on with Dazzler!

The problem is, if he's performing better than all but one FIT player, how can you drop him? All you can do is give another mediocre yet youngish county player a debut and watch them get spanked by the mighty Aussies. If we had half a dozen guys sticking their hands in the air fair enough, but everyone like that has been tried already and is either in the side or injured.

The thing is that it's one big circle....if you don't play them your never know and if you play them you could get carted all around the park.... the gamble might pay off and surley this is the best time to do it...Australia have won the series and we have nothing to play for apart from some pride back...so give the regulars a rest before yet another busy year ahead and let some younger players have the oppotunity to shine...if they fail then at least you can say "we played them and they couldn't hack the big league"
