Everything going for Serena atm. Predicting Safina will lose this set easily, but come back and play better in the 2nd. Hoping she plays better in the 2nd. Would be a bit of a let-down if this continues.

Commentators might have a point here, with the similarities between this and the Sharapova final.

5-0 up now too.

EDIT: And that's a big miss for Safina.

Wow. 6-0. Safina won 8 points that whole set. Devastating.

Whats the record for the shortest Australian open final? The way this is going it might be challenged....

Didn't Williams do this in the '07 final to Sharapova? Wiped her off the court IIRC. No doubt Jono will remember :p

You'd expect this from a player in her first grand slam final, not a player who has played one before, is world number 3 and has won a number of big tournaments.

Yeah, that's what the commentators have been saying, referencing all the hype about a big-hitting final, and then Serena absolutely dominating. Lots of similarities between this final and her last title here. Won't be surprised to see a similar result, unless Safina does something very soon.

EDIT: And she does do something. Interesting to see whether she can hold now.

Great first game in the second set for Safina, perhaps the nerves have eased with nothing really to lose now.

And she does it. What dominance. Very similar to 2007 too.

Not much of an initial reaction either.

One of the more underwhelming finals. Well done to Serena, has had her fair share of luck though, but she did make the most of it.

That was awful to watch. Federer and Nadal have to produce a repeat of Wimbledon to boost the average quality of the finals.

Full credit to Serena though, absolute champion.

Fair play to Serena, maybe not everyones cup of tea but clearly the best womens player in the world.

Good to see Serena win. Didn't think she would do it with the rubbish she was serving up pre and early in the tournament, and on another (cooler) day she'd have been watching Azarenka play in the later rounds.

Good on her. Only womens tennis player who isn't bloody rubbish under any sort of pressure.

Swing and a miss. Embarrassing.
For me that shot summed up Safina's performance. To think she had the chance to go to number one in the world if she'd won too, hard to believe that with the way she played.

No doubt I won't be the only one hoping the men's final tomorrow is a classic and somewhat makes up for the womens' tonight.

Am just waiting for someone to say that the final is indicative of the state of women's tennis atm.

7 showing this sneak peek a bit earlier than scheduled too.

Really hope Nadal-Federer isn't a disappointment.
