Afridi is a joke selection. Gayle can do the same job with the ball and miles better with the bat.

Agreed, Afridi basically can bat well on sub-continental pitches aganst weak attacks, he simply doesn't have the potential to do anything worthwhile against a team like Aus.

I think Razzak would have been a better choice than Afridi.

Flintoff had a below average game. He was solid with the bat and got a start but didn't go on with it
He wasn't helped by coming in so low.

That's the silly thing about this World XI - Flintoff's success has come at 5 for England, when he comes in he can pace his innings properly.

Yesterday, he came in at 7 in a lost cause.

the only difference between the catches Pieterson caught off the bowling of Vettori in the warm up and game one is the left hand / right hand batsman. :D amazing how similar they were

I was listening to ABC radio and the guy was telling M Slater that next year in the west indies they are going to play a local competition in the 20/20 format for,,,wait for it... 5 MILLION US DOLLARS
,Unbelievable huh, someone else must have heard the guy. Some west indian billionair is putting 14 mill into W/I cricket next year in an attempt to bring the kids back to the game.
Local teams only to play for the 5 million us dollars, the rest to be as incentives . Anyone know any more about this?

Also on last nights game i thought snagakara was very very fortunate to stay in,and rode his luck, but he still stayed in ,i think Vettori would have got the MOM if the W11 had of won or got close, but very rare for a player in losing team to win MOM when beaten by 100 runs.Excellent bowling by Muralli and Vettori,to think years ago PRE S K Warne they were saying that spinners cannot play in the ODI format as they were hopeless in that form of the game??? How times have changed huh? 8-)

to be fair, Flintoff should have attacked more since he had batters down to number 10 (Vettori)

how Watson got MOTM over Vettori i will never know, Vetori got more wickets for less runs, scored more with the bat and dod not drop one of the easiest catches of all time.
Watson won MOTM because he played a pivotal role in a winning side, 3 wickets and that run out, which basically is a wicket, puts him up to be MOTM.

Effectively it was Vettori 4 wickets, Watson 4 wickets.

And Vettori played well in a losing side, a side that got thumped really given the hype leading up to it, had the World XI won, then Vettori would have got MOTM

Probably, but he could be forgiven for playing conservatively a little longer given Vettori is by no means a bad batsmen, had he been able to retain his wicket, they could have set themselves up for a bigger run in the end

Symonds, gee that bloke is Fantastic,i was thinking last night he has to be the best ODI in the world in last year since his W/Cup game against Pakistan he has not looked back.
Not even close - his bowling isn't anywhere near good enough:

As a comparison from that day to present:

Symonds (71 games) - 2107 runs @ 45.80, 50 wickets @ 40.74 (eco 4.74)
Flintoff (44 games) - 1488 runs @ 46.50, 59 wickets @ 22.05 (eco 3.88)

Doesnt help that the ICC schedule it for a working day
They couldn't stick all 3 games at weekend, would've taken too long out of the schedule (which would then impact on all Test countries because of having to squeeze their games into a shorter winter)

Agreed - mind you, the same could be argued about Sehwag vs Gayle.

If Afridi is atall to be played then its better to send him as a opener and too utilize his skill as a bowler too.

Playing Afridi as sub and using him as a specialist batsmen and then sending him at number eight seems pretty dumb move to me.Pollock certainly didn't led the side well in the first match.

I hope there are improvement in World 11 games in second match, if this series goes like this then this whole SS contest will become a joke.

It doesnt help his cause that he's required to switch between Medium pace and Off-spin depending on the situation. If he concentrated on only one of those, he could reduce his average a lot, maybe not to the extent of flintoff, but down to 30 odd. The problem is that one of the things that makes him dangerous is his ability to change bowling styles.

they should call it the man of the match award from the winning team.
It's not though, it's just far more likely that the best player is going to be from the side that won, not always, but in the majority of cases

Does anyone think the World XI are missing a quality fielder, e.g. Gibbs? I know Pieterson is a good fielder but he was picked more on his batting imo
