This is the group I find the most interesting. All the other names on the list have proven track records and have been there before, but this tells us who people from outside of South Africa regard as promising up-and-coming players.

That was the initial stage where I think 59 South Africans put their names forward. But the 8 teams put down names they want to see at the auction.

https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-ne...pl-auction-indian-premier-league-2019-auction

What confuses me is how does someone like van Schalkwyk who wasn't even chosen in MSL T20 get interest ?

It's a fair list. Out of the young players maybe Bjorn Fortuin and Nandre Burger could have been on but IPL sides will be picky for spinners.

Not sure if they put themselves forward or not but zero interest in SA and SA players like D.Pretorius, Phehlukwayo, Shamsi, Cloete, Zondo, Behardien, vd Dussen, Olivier, B.Hendricks [Not including our test players not chosen]

Our retained players : AB, QdK, Morris, KG, Faf, Immie, Ngidi, Miller

CSA U17 Week starts today

Coca-Cola South Africa under-19 head coach, Lawrence Mahatlane is keen to see new stars born during the Momentum Under-17 Boys Week in Durban this week. Some of the most talented cricketers in the age-group will descend to Kearsney College from 12-16 December, competing in a selection Time Cricket and limited-overs matches between all 15 provincial sides and Zimbabwe.

With South Africa set to host the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2020, the under-17 Week is of special interest, with all the players featuring in this year’s edition eligible for selection for the spectacle which is quickly coming up.

This provides the young cricketers with an ideal opportunity to stake their claim early and although Mahatlane and his scouts have already identified a number of players, he is excited to see some new names being added to that list.

“It’s an exciting week,” he began. “I am looking forward to seeing an improvement in those players we’ve been monitoring and hopefully see some new talent, players we don’t know about and who are maturing now at the right time.

“We’ve had our national and regional camps, so there are a lot of players we’ve monitored and know what they are capable of. But I always say, until the squad is announced everyone has a great opportunity.”

The youth cricket showpiece is just over 12 months away and Mahatlane’s plans for the SA U19s have already been outlined.

He was also quick to point out the possibility of some of the players involved during the U17 Week being involved with the junior national side sooner than they think, as he looks to build towards the make-up of his squad for 2020.

“With the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week taking place next week and the CSA Franchise Cubs Week coming up in January, who knows? Some of these young men might be going to India with the SA U19 side in January.” he noted.

“From our point of view, we just look at what we have as a country, as our greatest strength. With the World Cup being in South Africa, we need to make sure we take advantage of our home conditions.

“We are looking to build a balanced side, with good batters, bowlers and some spinners. A team that should be competitive throughout the tournament,” Mahatlane emphasised.

Ahead of the five days of cricket these players have been working towards for the whole year through countless hours spent in the nets, Mahatlane urges them to back themselves wholeheartedly and not bring undue pressure upon their shoulders.

“I found with these young players, they just sometimes want it a bit too much and in their desperation, they normally put themselves under unnecessary pressure.” he explained. “They must go out there and give it a full go. The fact that they are in the provincial side already, means they are talented and it’s just about them going out there and playing.”

Feels good to be getting back to some 4-day and test cricket.

Think quite a few Proteas will be involved next week before the test. Markram, Amla, de Bruyn, Bavuma particularly. Can see Elgar, Quinny, Faf and maybe the bowlers getting time to put the feet up.

Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket starts today.

Squads from main teams.

Don't think Northern Cape have a Reeza Hendricks, Gihahn Cloete, Diego Rosier or Patrick Kruger who has gone through to senior cricket & Border had a fantastic year last year with Niemand/Qeshile going on to senior cricket. This season their captain from Selborne Matt Dewar (top-order batsman) and 16 year-old fast bowler from Hudson Park Lilitha Reed (in SA u17 training squad) are their stand-outs.

Been impressed with Rassie as a limited overs batsman, player of the Mzansi Super League I reckon. Of all the uncapped players though Anrich Nortje was a standout, shame he was struck down by injury early though. All in all I quite enjoyed what I saw in the first MSL season

COBRAS squad

Amla & Linde in
Khomari for Mgijima
Obviously no Philander

Smith/Bedingham to miss out for Amla ?

World Sports Betting Cape Cobras Squad: Dane Piedt (capt), Pieter Malan, Janneman Malan, Hashim Amla, Zubayr Hamza, Kyle Verreynne, Simon Khomari, David Bedingham, Jason Smith, GF Linde, Dane Paterson, Tladi Bokako, Mthiwekhaya Nabe.
Proteas batsman Hashim Amla has been included in the 13-man squad for the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras as the 4Day Domestic Series resumes. The Cobras head to Port Elizabeth to take on the Warriors starting on Wednesday.

In another team change, Simon Khomari replaces Aviwe Mgijima in the squad.

“Simon scored three scores of 70 in the Momentum One Day Cup last season and we hope he will continue that type of form for us against the Warriors,” said Ashwell Prince, coach of the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras.

The test player Amla is available for selection and will strengthen the top-order. Prince is not concerned about the lack of form Amla showed for the Durban Heat in the Mzansi Super League. He came back from an injury and in such a case T20 cricket is the worst format in which to resurrect your form.

Amla averages 47.23 in first-class cricket with a best of 311 and is a world-class batsman.

The World Sports Betting Cape Cobras won four out of their first five matches and are leading the table, and Prince said the reason for that excellence was that the team produced the basics with bat and ball. There were stunning partnerships with the bat and the ball and if the visitors are to repeat their winning ways, they have to reproduce those great partnerships with bat and ball.

“There is no weak team in the 4Day Domestic Series. The Warriors have lost Anrich Nortje, their best fast bowler and we want to cover all our bases and therefore have selected GF Linde as a second spinner. We are preparing for all possibilities and will assess the conditions when we get to Port Elizabeth,” Prince said.

Jannaman Malan was ruled out of the final of the Mzansi Super League due to a stomach bug and food poisoning, but he batted on Monday at training and will travel to Port Elizabeth as part of a thirteen-man squad.

Vernon Philander is the only test player that was ruled out of selection due to a fractured finger.

Apart from Amla, Zubayr Hamza, a potential test debutant for the Boxing Day Test at SuperSport Park, will also play at Port Elizabeth against the Warriors.

The World Sports Betting Cape Cobras played an explosive brand of cricket in the first four matches, winning all four thanks to their attacking prowess with the bat and excellent bowling, particularly by Dane Paterson and Tladi Bokako who were a revelation as an opening pair.

If the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras can sustain that winning approach, they will be difficult to beat at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

Prince said the change of format should not be a problem. The only aspect that requires a mental switch is that fast bowlers will bowl 20 overs per day and not four.

DOLPHINS

No Vilas/Frylinck (BPL)/Mungroo/Muthusamy

Dolphins squad:

Sarel Erwee, Vaughn Van Jaarsveld, Cody Chetty, Khayelihle Zondo (captain), Sibonelo Makhanya, Grant Roelofsen, Andile Phehlukwayo, Calvin Savage, Keshav Maharaj, Eathan Bosch, Okuhle Cele, Keith Dudgeon.
Following the excitement and success of the inaugural Mzansi Super League, the Dolphins welcome back their squad for one last CSA 4-Day Franchise Series clash of 2018 against the Highveld Lions at the Wanderers from December 19-22.

It has been an indifferent red ball campaign for the Dolphins so far with three draws and two losses from their five games. Despite there not being a win to their name, the Dolphins have been in with a chance in a number of their games.

The Dolphins will go into the clash without Mzansi Super League winning captain Dane Vilas, seamer Kerwin Mungroo, as well as all-rounders Senuran Muthusamy and Rob Frylinck, but will be hoping that their returning players will put in some good performances before the Christmas break.

Captain Khaya Zondo is looking forward to having the squad back together after a month of being rivals.

"It's going to be good having everyone back and it will be interesting to see what guys have learnt from their time away," Zondo said. "It will be refreshing to see our team mates again and there will be a lot to talk about from our time apart.

"There might be some new ways of thinking that guys might have learnt so we are looking forward to getting back together and sharing ideas."

It has been a helter-skelter month of T20 action and it will quite a change when they pull over the white kit and pick up the red ball again. Adapting to the change is going to be vital for both sides.

"It is going to be quite an adjustment as you are going from one extreme to the other. The best thing for us to do is to just go back to the basics individually.

"We need to change and play within our four day cricket game plans," Zondo highlighted.

There were some good performances from the Dolphins players in the Mzansi Super League and if players take that form into this four day clash Zondo will be happy.

"As long as guys are scoring runs and taking wickets it doesn't really matter how they are going about it!"
