The start of the final preparations this year's World Cup so an importent series.

Great to see Jofra back and it'll be interesting see how we balance the side without Stokes.

Presumably will be

Jason Roy
Ben Duckett / Phil Salt
Dawid Malan
Harry Brook
Jos Buttler
Moeen Ali
Chris Woakes
Sam Curran / David Willey
Jofra Archer
Adil Rashid
Olly Stone / Reece Topley

Feels a bit light on proper middle order batting with Moeen and at least one of Woakes/Willey/Curran probably a place too high. The idea Joe Root somehow doesn't make this side is clearly bananas but I guess that's what happens in contextless ODI series.

Selector keep Brevis, Rickleton waiting

His List A record doesn't justify his selection. He may have the talent, but until he actually shows it in the 50 over game his omission isn't unreasonable.
Brevis is a once-in-a-generation player but he's also not the Messiah either annd we mustn't place so much pressure on him.

Ask the English how many people have been heralded as the Next Big Thing in Batting and then either have middling careers (Hick, Ramprakash) or have careers that don't even leave the launch pad (Mark Lathwell). Brevis must be handled properly and we mustn't think he will save SA cricket single handedly.

Yeah but that is also English media hype....

Absolutely agree. Although I do wonder how much pressure is coming from South Africans. It does seem to me like a lot of the hype, maybe even most of it, is from other nationalities.

I think there is an expectation from the media in general (creating hype) which maybe the 'non-cricket fan' fans start expecting his inclusion... He's not there yet needs, maybe a season or 2 in domestic, hopefully gets a shot with SA "A" in that time.

Brevis also needs to be managed properly. The guy is still only 19 and has had ridiculous amounts of money thrown at him. It's not difficult for someone in that scenario to get caught up in everything around him and lose his way.

Fortunately, from what I've heard he seems to have a level head on his shoulders, and he does have AB mentoring him, so it looks like he's on the right track at the moment. But let's hope he stays on that track and doesn't become one of those stories of sporting prodigies not fulfilling their potential.
