Yeah right, when you begin your sentence with "ignoring WI in decline since 1995", there's hardly any other interpretation to be made. What the WI may have achieved 20+ years ago has no relevance to the point Pratters and OS were making. WI have been utter crap compared to Aus and SA in India, there's no two ways about it.
Ye right my foot . There is hardly any interpretation youuuuu can make or whoever else thinks like you - say that, don't tell that's what I was trying to say when I just said it wasn't - what is wrong with you

I didn't see any point Pratters make to what I was speaking about I quoted poster OS & unless I read him wrong initially I thought he was referring to the records of AUS & SA historically in India compared to WI, not their overall team record in last 20 years.

Up to that point of the thread on pages 227-228, I'm pretty sure people were talking about South Africa's record in India & that's what myself and posters Black_Warrior & Contra ran some quick post about, before i saw OS make his statement.

OS was responding to Pratters, you muppet. Context - learn to recognise it if you're planning on wading into a conversation two other guys are having.

Ignoring West Indies in decline since 1995, actual good Windies teams touring India when IND became strong at home from lets say 1966-1994 were superb in India, only loss was in 78/79 (i think) when the main WI players were away for World Series cricket.
Thought that means we are ignoring West Indies teams since 1995. Apparently not.

GI Joe Muppet wannabe  there was no posts on pages 227-228 from Pratters speaking about SA record in India, only myself Black Warrior & Contra. OS in his post i quoted didn't even quote Pratters, he made a stand alone reply to a HonestB point that is different to mine.

Last post of Pratters before page 227, I had to go all the way back to page 220 when he quoted fredfertag.

So I don't know WTH you talking about, - the only context is consistent BS so far from you in reference to what I posted about WI.

Learn your fellow posters names better, learn to count pages properly, learn better comprehension - before you wade into conversations people are having

Yes, but as usual what you might reply with next as whatever further interpretation you gathered from what I said in bold - will be the headache.

I dont think even Aussie reads his own posts.

I can't blame him.
I don't think you even can think or read well - much less you beginning to contemplate what I think or do with my posts - so I can't blame you either for your posts.

Chill bro. Why are you getting so riled up. I thought your world doesn't revolve around this site.
Haha now you dig up some irrelevant thread from 10 years ago. This is why I always question your interpretations skills - nothing about that post suggested me being riled up in any way. I'm not like you who is possibly affected by words of people online who I am never likely to meet in real life. So you chill - you & others want to derail the tour thread discussion by throwing shots - I'll happily throw back.

Jeez... aussie sure lights up threads, doesn't he? :p

I am guessing it might be to RSA's advantage if Morkel Steyn Tahir Philander and Duminy happen to be their bowling attack. They gain a batsman and a better bowling attack. I do agree with Sunny Gavaskar that AB and Hash should both be batting a number higher. Faf can try and do the Laxman job at 5. But maybe they feel Faf is better against pace and hence they want him in as early as possible. But this is going to be the best side RSA can put out this tour if Steyn is passed fit, and their best chance to hit back.

Gotta say, I am enjoying this little debate. You make great points. Did you play cricket at any semi-pro level? :)
No, my athletic ability did not allow for me to play cricket at any serious sort of level, the mind was willing, the body was not, even when I was young  .I have a good friend that umpired at a semi-pro level. Lets just say that I am a student of the game (like most here on CW I`m guessing) for many years.

Morkel, Steyn, Philander, Tahir would now seem to be the best choice, playing Tahir rather than Harmer, still makes me nervous. Whether we go in with both Harmer and Tahir would depend how much they trust Duminy and Elgar to do a job and the pitch on the morning! The problem with Tahir is if he has a bad day and we end up relying on Duminy and Elgar, who while not bad are still only part timers, in India trouble can happen very quickly. But if we play Harmer instead we get more reliable bowling but to much of the same in the spin bowling and that`s not good either...

This whole thing of moving Amla and AB up one in the order does not work, Faf is not being hidden at 3 because of spin its because Amla moved down one from 3 after Kallis and Smith retired and he was made captain (simultaneously almost). AB has always batted at 5 for us. When Kallis retired Faf was made no.4 and when Smith retired Amla swapped with Faf to take some pressure off, with the captaincy on his shoulders. Gavaskar made his comment after one match where he saw AB running out of "partners" having come in late... two things: it is highly unusual to see a SA side nowadays being bowled out for less than 350+ in the first innings, secondly we normally are playing Duminy and 4 bowlers (which we should stick with) that means AB normally has two other batting partners to follow him, not just one.

The only way I see the batting order changing at this stage is if they decide they need a left/right opening combination and then I can see Faf opening and everybody moving up one and van Vyl in at 5. But I don`t think this is likely. Another even further left field idea would be AB to keep and both Duminy and Bavuma in, you would get good odds on that one!

SA Team: van Zyl, Elgar, Faf, Amla, AB, Duminy, Vilas, Philander, Steyn, Morkel, Tahir. if Steyn is injured don't be surprised if Harmer gets a nod ahead of Rabada. I dont see us going in with only 5 specialist batsmen again.... this series (or ever really).

Yeah, good points I kinda think Van Zyl's slow medium is not the worst option on some of these pitches, so I would play Tahir knowing that I can get a few of his overs from VAn Zyl if he is getting tonked. And the middle order suggestion was just because I feel the best batsmen should bat as early as possible. Amla is very much a top order batsman in my book and so he should get a go at 3 and AB is your best middle order batsman and he should bat 4. I was not suggesting Faf was being hidden at 3. Heck, he started batting there against Australia, right? So it is the very opposite of hiding. :p

I'm a really big Van Zyl fan. Think he'll get one big score this series atleast. Don't rate the other youngish SA batsmen like Vilas much on first impression

van Zyl is excellent, he would have got into the team earlier if not for guys like Kallis and Smith!! He and Elgar had been knocking on the door for awhile.... Vilas is not a batsmen he is the wicket-keeper, he can bat and does well but he is not the class of someone like van Zyl. I think he is ahead of Quinny due to experience and form (for awhile there) and they have stuck with him. Vilas has been around the SA (and county circuit I believe, unsure for certain) for a number of years and has always performed well, his experience comes in with communication with the bowlers I think, while he is not experienced in India, he communicates with the cpt. and bowlers better, and this may have been needed in India. I am almost certain unless Vilas does something special that Quinny will be keeping in the tests again when England come to SA.

Upcoming SA batsman are R Rossouw (injured), R Hendricks, Theunis de Bruyn (I rate this one). Roussouw and Bavuma are fighting for the next in-line for test team. Rossouw is highly talented and should probably get in next but Bavuma (who I quite like) might get in for those other reasons. Bavuma should definitely have played this last test. But really the SA test batting line-up is pretty sorted unless injury forces an issue.

We have young fast bowlers, a few slower bowlers, some batsmen all coming though. Right now the problem is I can`t see a genuine all-rounder of Pollock/Klusener/Kallis (little unfair that one!) ability coming through... this is why SA are struggling to balance sides at the moment. Wiese fits the best, but I don't quite rate him good enough on either discipline at International level. This is also why Parnell ended up as such a disappointment.

SA's problems are definitely more in the batting department when it comes to depth. All rounders are anyways quite rare, and Duminy is more than enough as of now.
