Head probably going back to the mean. Same thing with Marnus. Both bright starts but later on bowlers figure them out. You can only outperform your FC averages for so long.

The bloke most likely to miss out if Travis is at 4 is Marnus. That leaves opportunities for new openers and maybe Short can at last nail one spot while the other could go to Renshaw - or Weatherald (who is currently having a crap run in the Top End T20 series).

You know Head is primarily a mo player but has the game to open. A poster mentioned if Head should move to the mo which could happen sometimes. Then someone has to be picked as opener. I went Renshaw. Players are versatile.. And its not as if opening is a ufo to him.

These suggestions are all deck chair shuffling and isn't going to make anything better. Head shouldn't be moved from opening. Renshaw deserves a chance but keep him in the middle order. Other than Marnus & Hardie it's not a selection or batting order issue, it's execution and planning.

Head, Marsh, Green, Inglis and Carey are all in our best top 7. We need to find who the other 2 are out of Short, Renshaw, Owen, David, Sangha, Webster etc

Its not good to get thumped in the way SA just did to us, but these odis are little better than friendlies. They're made for experimentation and bringing people in. There's nothing wrong with moving guys around to create opportunities for others and increase the options available for selection when the WC comes around.

That's true, but also there are so few ODIs these days that you can't afford to experiment too much because you need the players you expect to be relying on to get the game time. It's not like 20 years ago when you can play 30 ODIs in a year

There's an argument to be made that the paucity of ODIs makes experimentation even more important because you get so few opportunities to identify new talent tbh

Indeed, it's a conundrum. I expect the inevitable result will be relying to a larger extent on Test and T20 form to determine your best ODI line-up

Head & Maxwell batting together going ballistic would be the most destructive force in the ODI universe.

The amount of records that could be broken if they got going in a massive partnership.
