Easy to forget, but if Australia win on Sunday it would make for an incredible and dominant 5 months of cricket.
World Test Champions, Retain Ashes, World Cup.
For what seems an ordinary Australian team, that would be nothing short of massive.
Is this team average? Middle order is a bit shaky, but on paper an attack of cummins-zampa-starc-haze is really good, we've got one of our ATG odi openers in warner and another guy who was averaging 60+ @ a sr of 120 opening, with marsh averaging 50+ at run a ball as our backup opener, and maxwell at 7. We don't have as good a 5th bowler as india/SA and our middle order is a dumpster fire, but there's alot of quality.

Test team isn't bad either. Attack is quality, we've got boland who's had a philander esque start to test cricket as our backup, a quality backup spinner in murphy. Our worst performing top 6 bat was warner who averaged 35 opening the batting in that period, and we had a good keeper-bat and an allrounder averaging 37 with the bat and taking wickets @ sub 30.

Ordinary Aussie side ?
Smith and Cummins will walk in your Test ATXI.
And Head is in the form of his life.
Similarly Warner and Starc will walk into AUS ODI ATXI .

SA lost this game at Dharmsala vs Holland.
They just couldn’t chase anything after that game . And This was not a bat first pitch .

Lol what. They have an incredible collection of star players across all formats. Their issue, over the past decade or so, has been that their results don't justify the individual quality. Especially in tests

Test side that played in the Ashes was probably the greatest Aust side after dominant side of the 00s and the invincibles. They however fall short of having a legacy on their own due to away Ashes and BG performances

The loss is not unexpected but it’s sad that the exact major problems identified before this World Cup was exactly how SA came undone. No planning no mitigation.

I suppose that SA did better than expected, and also the batting for the most part fired really well. Bowling was hit and miss, but at least most of that was down to playing two inexperienced bowlers in Coetzee and Jansen. Rabada was pretty good and Maharaj has been brilliant. But in the end SA made the same mistakes been making for years and learning nothing new. And that is a major problem.

Whatever it takes!!!
Both RSA and NZ fans have justifiable reasons to be angry that longstanding issues that have been pointed out many times even here at CW by posters have not been addressed.

But they should also be extremely proud of how well their teams fought against much more fancied opponents. A lot of the times both yesterday and today, it looked like the big 3 sides would choke. It shows how well the pressure was applied by NZ batsmen and RSA bowlers.

Well done to Australia. At the end of the day they got the job done. Head and Warner scoring that quick 60 really was a difference maker.

As an SA fan I am proud of the fight shown today. Not much fanfare for the Proteas back home (largely because we were all in Rugby mode) but they made the country take notice through an overall good tournament.

For us fans that follow closely we knew the team's limitations. It seriously irks me when people question Bavuma's ODI credentials as a batsman. He deserved to be there. The form left him though and once he got injured he really doesn't have the tactical nous to be a "must play" kinda skipper. He should have turned to Keshav sooner but that's beating a dead horse now. All in all it was a good WC from the Proteas, a side packed with firepower but who can also collapse in a heap or get smacked around at 10 an over. They needed to avoid that happening in the semi and they couldn't do it. Looking forward to the final!

What we saw in that early burst from Australia with the ball is probably what makes most of South African batsman so good in LO cricket but not that good in tests. It was basically the first hour of a test match

Absolutely correct. I can't say that QDK didn't have an effective method in Tests before he called it quits but he doesn't play it anymore and wouldn't have faced that amount of sustained pressure since his last Test match against India. Temba's Test record is pretty mediocre and while Markram has shown signs of life since getting back into the Test team he was found out outside off quite often. Rassie had a fork stuck in his Test career as well. SA got through the tournament with their batsmen playing a certain way. I don't think we can call it unsuccessful but the conditions upfront exposed some of their short comings. If SA had a Smith or Marnus in those conditions it would have made a difference....It's not like we wanted Dean Elgar fronting up there though!
