edit: and I think Boam should be in the side right now. Elliott is in awful form and Boam is a very well organised player.
Don't forget Woodcock is unavailable at the moment and will slot back in, so even if drop Elliott then Boam will still miss out. Though I think Woakes only has one more FC game for Wellington.

expand on this. I think he came in at 7 for ages which is an ok spot in an ODI - where did you want him to bat?
I think he could have been an excellent no5 in ODI's & in tests as well. I think in Hadlee's book a few years ago he noted that people in CD wanted Oram to focus on his batting while the NZ selectors wanted him to develop his bowling.

Now he seems to be a bowler who bats a bit. Also, he's had a lot of injury problems probably in large part due to the bowling. I was wondering when he announced his retirement from test cricket how his career might have gone if he had just been a specialist batsman and developed that part of his game more.

OTOH, his bowling has been very useful & there was a lot of competition for places in the middle order, so I understand why they went in that direction.

I don't think they'd drop Elliot. His FC form is poor, but he got 50 off about 30 balls in their last T20 game. I would like to see Tipene Friday get a game too.

Is Fuller back for the whole season? Or is he signed as an 'overseas' pro.

I thought I saw his name in Auckland club cricket scores in the paper?

Who let James Fuller leave our beautiful country?

Smashed it with proper cricket shots and technique, then runs in casually and bowls late swinging deliveries at a good clip.

Dire piece of umpiring there. Devcich gets away with it. Don't worry Smithy, Devcich will give another chance in a few balls.

Otago didn't offer him a contract and John Bracewell swooped in and offered him a spot with Gloucestershire. Incredibly frustrating, NZC should have done something to sign him up after he played for the under 19's.

Devcich gets another life ffs.

So much raw material to work with in Fuller and Duffy. Is Fuller sold on playing for England? Another douche move from John Bracewell if so. Long way for Fuller to go obvz but he would get a serious run with an NZ FC side.

I guess he could take his pick, born in South Africa, raised in NZ & played for under 19's, but has a British passport:

Tue, 31 Aug 2010

Fringe Otago pace bowler James Fuller has signed a three-year deal with English county Gloucestershire but will be available for the province this summer, Volts coach Mike Hesson says.

The New Zealand Under-19 representative played two first-class games for Otago at the end of the summer with limited success.

He took two wickets for 231 runs but the athletic 20-year-old showed enough to convince Hesson he had a bright future.

However, because Fuller is recovering from corrective surgery on his ankle and will not be available until after Christmas, he was not considered for a domestic contract.

Even if he was fit he may have struggled to nab one of the 12 contracts on offer.

Former Black Caps coach and Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell was impressed by Fuller's efforts at the under-19 world cup in Christchurch last summer and seized the opportunity to sign him.

The South African-born player qualifies for Gloucestershire as a home-grown player courtesy of a British passport.

But Fuller's decision to throw his hat with Gloucestershire will limit his opportunities in New Zealand.

"James has been and will continue to be a big part of our future plans, including this season," Hesson said.

"He is still able to play as an overseas player for us ... so it makes no difference to us for this season.

"Gloucester are keen that he plays as much cricket over here as he can beforehand.

"The whole idea is to get as much cricket into James over the next couple of years as possible.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: “It is great news to have signed James as he has enormous potential as a pace bowler and ball striker.

“He is a genuine athlete who has chosen cricket as his profession and Gloucestershire will reap the benefit.”

Fuller said: "The opportunity of playing cricket for Gloucestershire under John Bracewell, on so many famous grounds, and amongst such great players is truly the chance of a lifetime.

"I am extremely grateful to Gloucestershire for having faith in me, and look forward to repaying that through my pace bowling and all-round ability."
Also, Duffy sounds very promising, a bit of depth developing in the pace bowling stocks.

Otago at least tonight with a faster attack than us.

itstl.

Radar has been trustworthy as well. Southee was bowling normal speeds (I missed the first 3 wickets tbf).

Oh hey its the kiwi commentator "gee i think that was quicker than the speed gun thinks" shenanigans. Because as we all 133kph = bad ball.

Was a good ball from Butler.

 this umpiring, and it keeps on being Butler getting screwed over!

edit: ok that was a good decision, but this is still hilarious.

He was rightfully miles away from an Otago contract 3 yearsa go, they only hand out 12 of them.

A good move by Fuller as there is nothing like the 2nd XI competition in NZ like there is England. Hes had a good apprenticeship the last 2 years. Hope he doesn't do a Caddick though, and one of the NZ provinces offer him a contract, as he looks promising.
