It can't have been done very often by anyone. Bradman probably did something similar. And I vaguely remember reading about Weekes having a seriously hot streak. Maybe Smith against England?
Gavaskar started his career with 3 fifties and 4 hundreds in his first 8 innings.

This has got to be the weakest opening pair India has had in awhile right. It feels like India are playing a number 5 and 6 batsmen as openers in England?

Whatever it takes!!!
Actually, I don't think he did. If we're talking about the 1999 series, there was an 8 between two of the hundreds and there wasn't an unbeaten 50 in sight.
yeah he had a 50 in the first test and then the most unfortunate run out, then a magical Gillespie ball in the second at Jamaica. Then the 213, then a first innings 8 and then the greatest test knock of all time, then the 100 at Antigua and then a 2nd innings low score.

Yeah, but the dud made only 1 in the innings in the middle of that lot, so he didn't do a Bairstow.

Weekes, otoh, made five consecutive hundreds.

Steve Smith twice came close. Within 3 runs against Pakistan and India in 2014 due to being dismissed for 97 against Pakistan. Interestingly, he may have done it if he'd retired hurt against England at Lord's in 2019. Instead, he came back and made 92 in between two 140s at Edgbaston and his double at Old Trafford. tbh I don't know his score when Archer knocked him over at Lord's.

Why after his disaster in the first innings is Broad opening the bowling.Potts looks a far better bet but no one has the cahoots to not give the new ball to Broad.please Stokes think outside the box

I mean one's the original first choice in the Indian opener roulette post WTC with Rohit before he was injured and KL took his spot, while the other is Pujara who isn't an opener. Define a while though because just last year Rohit/KL got a lot of praise, Mayank made runs at home and struggled in SA and Gill's just now come back straight into an away Test match when his last one was the series vs NZ in India.
