*Official* Cricket Web XI in the West Indies

Playing the T and T side, which has some superb talent, was definitely an ideal scenario for us first up.

But it was very poor batting in the first inning. Hoy 18 off 80 balls is all you guys need to look at to see to know how poor you were. There was the practise match in the camp where we had Pickup playing similarly and top order players failing. Not some thing which will help us become a team to reckon with if we continue down this path. A wonderful opportunity to bat on the first day wasted.

I must applaud the bowlers here. Despite the disappointment from the batters the bowlers showed heart. Kenneth, Hoy, Wright, Pickup, Cunningham and Halsey all bowled well and desrve praise. Despite a superb inning from Lara we restricted them to 243. Pickup was a bit experience cos of the Lara effect but I reckon he gained some valuable experience from this enounter.

Mamesh continued his Sehwagesque agression and rocked T and T in the second inning. Mork hadn't recovered from the drop of Lara maybe. Butler was having some valuable batting practise when the rain interrupted. A pity.

Cricket Web XI vs President's XI
at the UWI Campus

The Cricket Web XI settled for batting practice in the second innings at UWI, after they were stunned by the President's XI bowlers at 76/6. It was the perfect opportunity for Håkon Mørk to finally stamp his credentials on the tour, and he did so with a good half-century. His partner Bryce Cunningham played superbly in turn for his unbeaten 89 off just 87 balls. Some 125 runs were added for seventh wicket and the game proceeded to a tame draw after the early drama.

As in the first match, the Webheads won the toss and chose to bat first in glorious conditions. Tino Best quickly mocked the decision with a searing yorker that uprooted Mørk's legstump. When Mamesh waved loosely outside the offstump, the score was 4/2. Andrew Cloete played a lovely cameo to sieze back some initiative, but it was Brendon Goff who played the key role in the innings, scoring a fine half-century for his team's cause. He was partnered well by David Kearsley, and the young man found some form with an entertaining 72.

Richard Kelly finished with an impressive 7-wicket haul and the score was limited to just 338. It proved more than enough, however, as Kennett led the tourists in a superb team bowling effort. Tishan Maraj and Tamar Lambert fought hard to register half-centuries, but the last 7 home wickets fell for 44 runs and Cunningham wrapped the tail in clincial fashion.

A lead of 114 runs on the mind, the Webheads fought back from the early drama to finish a moderate showing and another draw ahead of the first Test.

Wow, that Kelly really ripped into us. Having said that, it was a solid performance. Not spectacular, but solid - progress on the last game can only be good, great to see that all the top three have now made a 50 in the leadup to the tests, hopefully they can keep that kind of runscoring when they face up to the Windies.

Pretty good performances overall, some decent perfrmances by Cunningham and Kennett there. I hope the Windies selectors continue to forgot about spinners and forgot Kelly in the 1st XI.

Good work out for the batsmen and bowlers in the first and second inning of the match. A shocker of a collapse in our second inning. But we showed we can come out of tight situations with the Cunningham effort. We can take a lot from that match, not just in terms of individual practise stints but also in the fact that adverse situations doesn't mean all is over.

It is just an opportunity to show strength.

Windies name 13-man squad

The WICB has named the squad for the first Test match against the Cricket Web XI, starting on February 27. Shivnarine Chanderpaul will expectedly lead the team, which contains familiar faces as well as the odd surprise.

Mervyn Dillon has been recalled to the senior squad, whilst fellow Trinbagonian Dave Mohammed misses out again. Mohammed, touted by many for a Test recall, failed to make an impact in the two warmup games. Rawl Lewis is the sole specialist spin option, and Daren Ganga returns to the reckoning for Test cricket.

West Indies 1st Test squad:
S Chanderpaul (C), RR Sarwan (vc), D Ramdin (wk), CH Gayle, D Ganga, DJJ Bravo, DS Smith, BC Lara, FH Edwards, RN Lewis, M Dillon, IDR Bradshaw, DB Powell.

Should be interesting to see which bowler will be 12th man. Hard choices to be made! Great looking side, though - I wish every player all the best.
