2nd highest opening stand for South Africa in the past 10 years. Highest being the 400 odd Smith and McKenzie put on against Bangladesh.

Possibly the closest I`ve seen to a human shield in cricket....
 Literally that was only Trent Bridge then.

Nice start to life in test cricket if he can get his 100 and lay-down the marker no matter how easy it has been. Got to want to start this way.

Although Cook started with a debut hundred and didn't Rudolph open and get a double vs Bangers on debut

At least it wasn't run out for 99 on debut. You wouldn’t know these two have batted together before, running has been pretty ordinary all innings.

Trying to think if that is a bad stat or not
Not a good stat. Been 20 different opening combos in the past decade and only six of those combos had a 100 run partnership or more. Smith and Petersen were the most prolific with six but Smith and McKenzie averaged over 65 together with 5 100 stands or more. Elgar has had 9 different partners and has only opened since 2014.

Come on Bangladesh, don't get completely steamrolled away from home after getting people's hopes up with your recent displays. A NZ-tour type performance would be more than acceptable. Not this, though.
Not much difference in the bowling from the NZ series

Definitely understand where you coming from and it is spot on. Too many make-shift openers in that time to but then it can be tough to open in SA.

But was just joking because is 200 opening stands normal ? I suppose it is in Asia.

Good first day for SA, could not have asked for better really, outside Markram actually getting his 100. Don't know what to do when SA start a series off on a positive note...unusual circumstance nowadays.

Hinsight being perfect I`m glad we did not play the extra batsmen and Phehlukwayo could be pretty good on a drying up down pitch, may just help him considering how straight he bowls.
