Anyway, I'd like to know what the hell Daniel Smith offers to New South Wales as a specialist batsman in one day cricket. His technique is awful, he's supposed to be a big hitter but always ends up hitting it straight to fielders, he averages just over 21 with the bat after 7 games with no half centuries and no centuries (and he's opened the batting about half the time), he's not a natural ground fielder (he's a wicket keeper..), he's about as mobile and flexible in the field as the Pasha Bulka and he makes Mark Cosgrove look like Ally McBeal.

I really don't *get* his selection. I know Forrest did poorly when he was given a shot in one day cricket but he batted too low for his natural game mostly, and at least he offered something in the field. Even if not him, I'd much rather see David Warner, Ben Rohrer or even someone like O'Brien or O'Keefe in the team (even though we are bowler heavy as it is) because they'd all offer as much as (well... more than, IMO..) Smith as a bat and potentially much, much more in the field.

Lack of depth in the opening department tbh. Its either him, Lambert or Cowan. Craig Simmons is too inconsistent even at Grade level these days. Mail never been an one day batsmen. Rummans and Moss are seen as too old. Unless Katich, Haddin or Thornley put their hand up to open he will have the spot for a while. Cus when Jaques comes back, Hughes will be gone. Like Lambert, Smith has a pretty good record opening the batting at grade level and that will keep him there for a while.

Yeah, I wasn't advocating Simmons, I've seen his Grade cricket results over the last few seasons. I'd much rather we went back to Cowan or Forrest than persist with Smith, though, really. I just think he's awful, and I wouldn't even play him in first class cricket if Haddin was out (I'd ask Mail to keep).

As much as I always believed Moss was over-rated, he'd be an interesting option. He batted well enough for Victoria last season in the one day stuff. I think he'd so a better job than Smith, anyway, even if we didn't use his bowling.

Anyone but Smith. :p

Well played, Micky L. Had a good run, he did. Topped it off with a few half-centuries in the Vic's 2nd XI this year, too

Both Cowan and Forrest are seen as too slow in ODs, which is probably accurate. Even if they opened it would take about 30 odd overs for either to get going. With Katich also in the Top 3, that creates problems and in the past our lower middle has had to slog from ball one cus we haven't scored fast enough at the top.

With basically three all rounders in the team and batting down to 8. They rather have an opening batsmen who averages mid 20s and score at near a run a ball. Then someone like Cowan or Forrest who might average 30 odd and score at 70. Thats the plan right now it seems. But it doesn't work cus Smith and Lambert wont even average 20.

Would rather they just throw Moss in there and let Forrest and Cowan expand their game for a season or two. Then persist with Smith or Lambert, but it doesn't look like happening.

Haha, and they just finished it off, winning by 13 runs. How do you bowl a team out for 36 and not win!?

Haha that batting lineup would be ridiculously strong if Watson, Perren, Maher & Hartley could find some proper form.

LOL I know hey, but seriously I reckon it's a good lineup.

Possibly someone like Sullivan could get a spot, but PLEASE no Doran for the rest of the year. 15 overs 2/108 is laughable, especially as the wickets were tailenders.

Really, really don't rate Sullivan. I'd much rather see Swan get an extended run, even though I don't really rate him much either. :p
