For some reason I tend to watch most WI Tests because of the time they are broadcast in SA,so I've been following Chase from the start of his career. I don't know at what point the regression occurred but he is not the same batsman that can bat put a day for a 100 anymore. I get why Cornwall is on the outs, there is no way he passes most fitness tests because of his bulk, but if he bowls offies, bats at 8 and is in the slips I still would prefer him to any other spinner I've seen from WI in the last 10 years.
We have a plethora of very decent left arm spinners IMHO, most of whom could be test class with a bit of run. If Rakheem is out we should have just cut our losses and gone with Motie or Akheil Hossein.

I would have chose Motie as well.

Been happening for a while now that options like Motie, before him it was Bishoo, under the captaincy of Brathwaite or Holder are in and out of the side and at times been underbowled in favour of the likes of Warrican, Chase etc.

Can't think why.

Was amusing listening to Michael Hussey joking about the perceived Western Australia bias in Australian selection over the years. I feel like you can replace them with Barbados in our context, only we have a number of concrete examples of favouritism, even before the current selection panel.

This might not be the right thread of this, but what is all the "Barbados clique" talks about?
If you score runs or take wickets for Barbados you are far more likely to get a long run in the side as opposed to someone from Guyana, for example.

Recent examples of this are the likes of Hope and Chase averaging next to nothing for 2 years but still getting a long run and recalled at the first opportunity.

Also the likes of Benn and Warrican inexplicably getting first choice SLA status ahead of Miller and Permaul, despite being massively out performed at domestic and A team level.

Then there is Shamarh Brooks consistently getting picked and described as 'boosting the batting' by the chairman of selectors, who happens to be a club mate of his.

There are too many examples for it not to have at least an element of truth.

the Marsh bros and Stoinis have proven that such bias does have a basis in reality

I don't know how much of it is a WA bias and how much is just a Marsh bias

A few WA players have been overlooked lately that probably should have been given more of a chance

Who you thinking of? Whitemans a bit hard done by and Inglis probably deserved more t20I gigs then he's got so far, but nothing else springs to mind.

tbh a lot of them it's probably their own fault because of injuries

but they've had some real class bowlers that have underrepresented at the top level like Behrendorff, Richardson, Coulter-Nile & Paris

youngster by the name of Shaun Marsh should be given a decent run too

In fairness with those bowlers it's hard to think of who they should've been picked ahead of. Add that all of them have had dire injury issues and....

Just out of curiosity..who according to you are the best spinners in the Caribbean right now? I assume you're West Indian and are more in touch with the regional happenings.

Many ages ago, I used to hear of a certain Imran Khan ( I guess that was the name) who never got a chance in International cricket despite his returns in domestic. IMHO, Nikita Miller got enough chances at the ODI level but could never justify his selection. Anyway, this is all water under the bridge now.

Meanwhile... Tagenarine has collected a nice 80. Good going.
Devon Thomas as a specialist batsman :-O:-O:wacko::wacko:
The form of Bonner is worrying.
Mayers has unraveled faster than a sweater in his batting since that Bangladesh knock.
Hopefully, Da Silva will not disappoint and at least get a 50.

Haven't watched any today but the difference in figures of Murphy v Agar is pretty insane

Murphy bowling himself into the Test squad soon

He reminds me of Swann. Hope he won't throw the towel mid way through a series though

The best off spinner is Rakheem. Below him we have some options who can really spin the ball like Brian Charles, but they are just not ready yet.

As I mentioned, both Gudakesh Motie and Akheil Hossein are very decent left arm spinners who put revs on the ball, have excellent arm balls and changes in flight etc. IMHO those two are our best options if they won't pick Rakheem.

We have no leg spinners worth of the name really. I saw a couple of them in the Under 19 comp that looked better than anything we have now, but they will take time to come through. Imran Khan has been an excellent servant for T & T and in his prime should have been given a go. He bowls fast flat leggies in the style of Anil Kumble. Not sure if he would have succeeded or not but him not even getting a go was harsh.

Nikita Miller was an average List A bowler. He was an excellent red ball bowler, badly mistreated by various selection committees.

Chanderpaul....a chip off the old block perhaps?
He has certainly hit form over the last year. Will be intrigued to see how he goes against the big boys but he has certainly earned the chance.

I saw Bonner's dismissal. Low hands resulting in a glove to the keeper. Unfortunately I expect to see a lot of that on this tour.

Unless they deliberately neuter the pitch like the NZ test, gonna be a bit of a shock for WI coming from the slow-as-treacle Manuka pitch.

Promising signs for Australia - Harris out early.
