Dude, you are missing context. He was off and on in Ranji because of international games in between. He was chasing impossible 4th innings scores twice I think and was dismissed cheaply there. And his bowling was actually what got us back into the game once.

Going by sheer FC numbers when our FC is all over the place as it is with 38 teams and a plethora of conditions, when he has actual test match success to show, is just silly.
Yes, he has done very well with the bat so far in tests but he has not shown himself to be a test bowler at test match level or first class level. Being off and on in Ranji is just an excuse.

He was chasing impossible 4th innings score mainly because his bowling was not up to the mark. Even Riyan ****ing Parag has bowled better this season than him and has more than one bowling performance to show and I don't want that Parag guy ever in the Indian team.

If I am looking for a #6, I dont see how there is anyone better.

And again, as far as Parag goes, context is everything in Ranji. Sheer numbers are pretty much almost always misleading.

Ok so what is the context here? Both of them are in the same Ranji group and one has performed much better with both bat and ball than the other. I too try to justify my favorite players like Jadeja and search for context accordingly. But I couldn't find any such context here. :p

Coz he was there playing Ranji all along. Washy had to go out and play the home LO games and then come back. That is ur difference. You couldn't find the context coz you made up your mind based on the numbers and did not want the context. :p

And the simple point again is, if I am looking for a #6, batting success is far more important and I am not picking a name out of the hat here. Washy has had success against Australia and in India as a batsman. And his overs are likely just a bonus and his bowling style is such that he will keep it tight and keep the batsmen honest while the main bowlers are getting a break. It is perfectly fine and he can always snare a good 2/50 which is more than good enough for a 5th bowler in Indian conditions.

So, if he is not able to adapt to first class cricket after playing LO, should we blood him in tests and expect him to perform there after playing LO? Or drop him from the LO team and have him focus on tests?

I know I am being a bit of a subshaker here but I am not able to get the logic of taking Sundar to our test team when he has not proved himself except for one good test innings with the bat.

You have no idea of Sundar's performances and you don't want him in the side because you dont. You are right, it is subshakez logic.

The way the batting looks I wouldn't mind Sundar playing as a specialist bat who can more than turn his arm over. The third spinner even on Indian wickets is surplus so makes sense to include him and shore up the lower order. Between him, Ashwin, and Axar, we should be able to cobble together 75-100 runs more often than not.

No, you are going more on hope than his performances and having it as the context. I will definitely want him in the side if I am confident he can even remotely perform close to what Jadeja or Pant have been doing for India so far, which is rescue India every time after our batsmen fail. I doubt Sundar can do it consistently and also, if he can offer anything at all with the ball in tests. He is more of a restrictive bowler.

I think he is better than every other option for that slot we have. And i am basing it on past performances, you are the one judging on hope here.

Sundar is not a bad replacement for Jadeja as a batsman. As a bowler, he is nowhere close but if the pitch is turning square, Sundar would be reasonably effective. And it's not like Jadeja will be playing anywhere close to his best.

He did play the CC and took a 5-fer on debut for Lancashire. Should be fine as a 5th bowler imo. Batting has good potential too. Obviously a downgrade on Jadeja on both fronts but so is every cricketer in the history of the game.

If Iyer doesn't makes it I think Gill will get a chance before SKY. He is in tremendous form & has got TM confidence. Also idea was always that he is a middle order player.
I think he will replace Pujara after this series anyways.
Anyways team looks really weak if Iyer goes out... There won't be anybody to demolish Lyon's offies

Virat will take care of that
