NZ domestic season 2023/24

Looks like quite a good opening innings from Parkes today until a genuinely horrible swipe.

Both Smith and Foulkes with just the one wicket, a very typical caught behind in both cases, but both barely conceding any runs at least.

International Debutant
Georgeson opening the bowling and picking up both openers. He must be pushing hard for an NZ A spot as another all-round option.

McKenzie just falling short of a half century. Another promising all-rounder who happily seems to not be playing super rugby this season.

That was a cracking spell from Fisher before stumps. Had both batsmen dropped, edging over the slips and playing and missing. Finally got his reward with the last ball of the day. The guy is quality. Wouldn't mind him being included in the squad for the Pakistan t20's.

lol at Wellington sending in Younghusband as nightwatchman. Now the batting order is:

5 Kelly
6 Abbas
7 Blundell
8 Macewell
9 N Smith
10 van Beek
11 Snedden

How the world should be.

Just a pity that wicket was Mariu. Not sure why he wasn't opening, though.

U19 12th Man
Dale-friggin'-Phillips. Wow, just wow.

Nice to see him deliver with the bat. He & Chu have been carrying Otago with the bat this PS. Could he finish the season in the Top 5 run scorers? Could he push for a NZ A callup (I guess there'll be one in the off-season)?

The gang of 32 years olds ride again.

Bump the most promising looking young opener in nz down to 3 and open with two 32 year olds.

I actually don't mind Nicholls trying to stretch himself and open , see if he can get back in test team. But .... that means Bowes should be moved.

Look. Obviously I don't know what conversations were had and how amenable each party is to moving. Just my first thought/ hot take.

Will Young opening for CD today.

This is the first time he has opened for them. First time he has ever opened at FC level lower than test cricket or 'A' cricket.

Brent Arnel playing for Counties today in Hawke Cup elinatorv BOP.

Rolling back the years. He's 45. At the other end of the spectrum, his first wicket was of 16 year old who scored quite big runs at the national U19s (but didn't make the world cup team).

Younghusband making batting look very easy this morning. A chance here for some of Wellington's prospects to make big scores if they can show the necessary discipline.

Sadly not the type of dismissal you want if you plan to be an international opener.

Nah, Will Young has opened the batting in county cricket for Northamptonshire.

100 for Severin. Highveld graft strikes again, etc., but he is pretty quality.

Player-coach IIRC.

Fine hundred from Severin. Totally chanceless from what I've seen. Big chance to go on and make it a daddy.

For Otago, Hazeldine's bowled well without luck. Had a big shout for a catch down the leg side and has had Younghusband hopping all over the place. There's plenty of turn on offer for day 2 and Loverose has induced a few plays and misses, but Duffy and Georgeson have looked pretty toothless.
