New Zealand 'A' 2020/21 Thread

Actually, Both his highest FC score and best bowling in same match.

Definitely a 'so far' on the batting. Will take a while to get another 6-fer again, if think.

rachin looking pretty ***y at the crease. he's such an important cricketer for us. a world class opener (and not just a minnow basher like latham) who can bowl competent spin would be so, so valuable in all formats.

nathan smith is also a very attractive batsman and it's nice to see him finally making some all round contributions this year. nutall needed these wickets too if he's going to force his way back into a h4x canterbury bowling line up.

also good to see cameron fletcher make a contribution. doubt he'll ever play higher levels but this is a good experience for him to take back to being a shield battler.

Fletcher, like Cleaver, has kicked ass with the bat each time he is elevated to 'A' level.

Wham, bam. Both Ravindra and McClure out. The only 2 decent batters in this 11. Should be comfortable win for Pak A.

lots of starts but no match winning scores for the boys against a test attack. that fawad/nazir partnership the difference, though matt henry's 6fer dragged nz back into it.

nz A batting is top heavy imo, carter and macewell aren't getting test caps any time soon, so once the top three left it was always going to be hard but nathan smith dug in.

The unusually high quality of the opposition the clear reason for it, but potentially NZA's first first-class match lost at home since 1999? Gary Stead was opening and Mark Richardson the captain, batting at five.

I haven't had a ball-by-ball look, but quite a good value fixture for all. Rachin vs. a shadow Test attack for 200+ balls, and then Fawad Alam batting against him like a very patient king of the format (nearly 13,000 first-class runs). Especially compared to all those friskier products of the modern age in NZA's last opposition.

Yes, shame the first Pak A game was cancelled.

Obviously the test buildup games, this one and game v 'West Indians' of much more value than the test-concurrent games v Windies A who were seemingly a group of T20 guys filling in time.

Rachin's 12 overs for 48 during the big partnership weren't too bad. Even ones that he drags down outside off often hit the seam in just the right way to be quite inadvertently useful deliveries.

Crazy. What the hell is that?!

Actually reminds me a bit of Santner at Mt Maunganui last year. Getting too much spin and bounce and hitting chests rather than gloves.

Yeah that's more than once that I've seen a short delivery of Ravindra's surprising the batsman and wicket-keeper with unanticipated bounce. It could be what I said about hitting the seam at an odd angle, but also to do with his very loosey goosey bowed wrist putting lots of topspin on it.

I thought there were supposed to be two T20 NZA games versus Pakistan A? Instead there's some random NZ side playing them.

Yes this was probably the outing that got the Pakistan Shaheens their downgraded opposition.

It is basically last year's NZ U19s + Jeet Raval. At least that keeps the quality of SuperSmash at a good level which is important with so many games on free to air (TVNZ) television.

Cheers, looks like Canterbury played them with an almost B side as well, does seem like a bit of a lack of respect to the Pakistan team though.
