Mystery Draft (ODI XI and Test XI, 79-09)

Your probably best letting teams select home grounds and let them pick the ratings they feel are why they selected the ground. If they are a long way off you can alter them.
Shway, what do 0-0-0 mean by the way, I gather the last is spin.

Pace-Seam-Spin. Basically the higher Pace is the better Fast bowlers bowl. Seam the better medium pacer bowl and spin, well spinners.

One issue with it is that it every much specific to what type of bowler you assign for the player. Fast bowlers don't always perform well on seamy tracks for example.

That'll be tricky.

you guys are so happy discussing the post selection scene. i am tense. waiting for Nufan, chaminda and matt to select before i get to select twice. there is still a possibility i could come up with a winning one-day team; my test team at best is going to be just about passable.

NUFAN can't pick the two I'm going for but, there not that great anyway. I'm quite concerned about my last two picks. As they will make or break my side. Most likely break considering what little is left. Still the plan was always based on not having the worst side and that plan might just work. Though I can't see many sides worse them my side, even NUFAN's test side.

I think you'll find that most of us are much more satisfied with the state of our ODI teams than test teams - my guess is thats due to the inclusion of at least a couple of good but hardly great players from a combination of England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe/Bangladesh dragging teams down. Perhaps its easier to hide those weaknesses in the ODI format.

Unless you selected Andy Flower, Streak or Shakib to a lesser extent I think the Zimbabwe/Bangladesh player drags the rest of the side down. That might be harsh on the likes of Goodwin, Houghton, etc but the reality IMO is that they're not at the same level as the options from the established test nations, or at least didn't play enough internationally to be recognised at that level. Its funny that Shakib was so highly valued in this draft as if we did it even a year ago, he would hardly be considered TBH.

Well he had a helluva year :p

Reaching the no.1 ODI allrounder spot and taking a bucketload of 5fers in Tests as well as a few excellent knocks. One for the future IMO. Really it was a toss up between him and Streak for me, but I thought I'd rather a full pace attack, and the spinners position to be filled with relatively little lost.

Flower was the big gun though.

i didnt want to choose a bowler or batter from the minnows as that would weaken the core of my teams. hoping tabu's good wicket keeping skills and passable batting (avg 0f 20+) helps the team.

Happy with Goodwin and RTD, reckon they showed at FC level they are a class above. For mine Goodwin could be a late pick in an all time side of this era and RTD made an ODI all time side as well in the other draft. I don't think they are that out of place. If we had better players around them, they would add a lot to the side.

Kenyan Steve Tikolo too deserved to be in a test squad with his FC record.
Yeah hard on the bloke, but how he would have coped at Test level is an impossible question. He'd have been good but for sakes of the draft he just couldn't be included.
