Muttiah Muralitharan has become the first player to record 1000 international wickets. He's got 584 in Tests and 411 in ODIs. Your thoughts?
Has no-one spotted that that only makes 995?

And yes, I do know he's got 1000+ now, I'm just being a pedant. :p

If he isnt 'that special' outside SL ( taking more wickets/match than Warne with just over 1 point worse average while having nowhere the pace attack Warne has to make his job easier) then no spinner is 'that special'.

He has more wickets per match... but a worse strike rate away from home.

OK STOPPING!

I like and respect Murali, he gets disrespected way too much which is unfair. I didn't mean to add gas to the fire before. 1000 wickets is something to be in awe of. I wish I had have seen the test as it would have been a story for the grandkids one day. I don't know if people understand what we have... we live in the era of Lara, Tendulkar, Warne and the great Muttiah Muraliduran.

Hopefully he'll keep going after the world cup because he's an amazing entertainer. I always gravitated towards bowlers like Murali more than others. His greatness is obvious.

His figures speak for themselves. Regrettably, there are many who wish to add qualifications.

As far as his achievement of bagging 1000 international victims, that's absolutely staggering by any set of criteria.

(as for "and will be" - well, we don't know that).
haha! I was just flame baiting mate. ofcourse I don't think murali will be the best there will be.

I think Murali's acheivements will mostly be ignored by cricketing purists (AKA Shane Warne lovers) because he is just so un-orthodox that even if his action is legal,he gets an un-fair advantage of traditional bowlers.

Still,it's a great acheivement and well deseved, just like to point out that he has the most expensive bowling analysis in one day cricket,

Its a damn shame that a thread used to honour a player that has just accomplished an amazing feat has turned to this. Fair enough if it was "Murali takes 1000 international wickets, Warne hasn't" or something stupid said, but all this thread was aimed at was honouring him, just like when Lara got the most test runs, Sachin most test centuries and Warne most wickets in a calendar year.

Poor form people.

well not a great Murali fan at all, but great achievement by him, along with Warne they have made spin bowling ***y in the last generation:cool:

Truly amazing achievemnt. He makes people look stupid more than anyone else in world cricket at the moment.

Well, except for maybe the Australian OD team. They make themselves look stupid pretty regularly these days ;)
