That's pure speculation on your part. Sami was given chances because the likes of Iftikhar Anjum, Naved Ul Hasan, Mohammad Zahid, Mohammad Akram, Fazal-e-Akbar, Riaz Afridi etc all turned out crap.

If Pakistan has better bowlers then why the hell they still have Sohail Tanvir and Yaseer Arafat playing for them ?
Yasir Arafat is comfortably better than Sami. Likewise Fazl-e-Akbar. So, really, are Rana and Rao.

Never mind the likes of Shahid Nazir.

Good riddance I say, saying that Pakistan seems to have hit an all time low in their cricket history, quite sad. Cricket seems to be dying in the country which is hardly surprising considering the domestic problems in the country.

That's the end of cricket's greatest enigma. A question that may never be answered.

Sanz what are you on mate?

From the bowlers you have mentioned only Akram turned out crap. Fazl-e- Akbar have never got a fair chance in the test arena despite a great first class record while Rao and Rana were never considered test class material and only got chances due to injuries. If you look at Riaz Afridi he played only one test and looked quite decent but then he lost his desire to play for some reason and now he even struggles to get in to his domestic team and as for Zahid thats a tragic story. He was outstanding before all his injuries and then when he got fit the selectors drafted him without even checking whether he is match fit or not and when he could not perform to the desired standards he was shunted quickly without ever getting a proper look again.

If Pakistan has better bowlers then why the hell they still have Sohail Tanvir and Yaseer Arafat playing for them ?.
Yes people were surprised when Tanvir and Arafat got selected over other deserving candidates but tbf to them they have performed quite well for the chances they have had. Arafat got 7 wickets and scored a fifty in his only test cap which is not that shabby.

And If Imran was the force behind Sami, who was behind Kaneria ? They guy has played 50+ tests for Pakistan and has taken 200+ wickets. I would like to see what options they have as his replacement. Last time they needed a second spinner, they had to dig a grave in Peshawar.
The case of Kaneria is interesting he was comfortably outperformed by Rehman in the home series versus SA but come the Indian series Rehman could not even get a lookin for a single test match while Kaneria played all 3 tests despite looking as threatening as Rawl Lewis, maybe he has Dr Naseem Ashraf pics in some compromising position:p

Without meaning to criticize other forummers, I would like to point out that some of the matches Sami played against India (Both in Pakistan and in India) Were on some of the WORST pitches ever. I mean, those were pitches that league cricket shouldn't be played on. And like someone else pointed out, it is not exactly that the other players (barring Gul and Asif) were setting the scene on fire!
