That's what I thought too but BAN and NED play each other next so only one of them can get 6 points like SA

Of course Aus will rest players and give bench players some playing time.
Age old question tho, do you play to win a tournament or to win every match.
I have no problem with Aus setting out to win the match but in a cautious manner, if that improves their chances to win the tournament (and with the added extra of embarrassing "the auld enemy" and helping the Scots.)

I’m not sure Aus has lost to a minnow nation at a WC since Zimbabwe in 83. And while minnows generally won’t go deep into tourneys, there is usually an upset at some point by one of them which causes an established country some dramas in qualifying. You don’t win a WC by beating the likes of Namibia, but you can fist yourself by stumbling against them

Interestingly, if that was England thrashing Namibia by that score then England NRR would improve from -1.800 to 2.584, well ahead of Scotland's 2.164

I mean you say play the reserves. There's only 4 you could bring in. Inglis for Wade makes no difference, Starc for Ellis improves the team, Agar for Zampa (or Maxwell) is hardly a huge issue and Green for Stoinis is virtually a 50/50 call anyway. These players would have something to prove and probably be more dangerous to Scotland.

No way Scotland win this, just a question of how ruthless Aus are, and despite the fact there maybe an opportunity to knock out England, it doesn't strike me that they'll take their foot off the gas. In fact it's starting to look like they might just steamroller everyone in the comp....

Zimbabwe repeated the feat at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. They may not have quite been minnow status then, but to beat an Aus team that had recently cruised to the 50 over World Cup was quite the surprise.

It shows how doable for England it is. I do think they can go big against Oman in particular if they bat first, the top 3 could all drag the team to 250 odd. Scotland's failure to thrash Namibia could end up being their undoing.

If Aussies have the chance to eliminate England by going easy against Scotland it would be extremely unprofessional not to IMO. As much of a joke as England is as a cricket team, and a nation, they are still a bigger threat than Scotland in this tournament. If England somehow pull of a win in the next stage that hurts the Aussies and they didn't take the chance to get rid of them earlier, it's the result of irresponsible tournament play
