Interesting. But I will have them both as ATGs. :)
I see them both as insanely successful at home, (which is quite underrated), with a smattering of good games overseas amidst some admittedly poor performances. Both didn’t have a fair shot at changing this for reasons not entirely in their control. With KW it’s a lack of tests for NZ, with Ashwin it’s selection policies, and a weak batting lineup that needed the presence of Jadeja.

What's coming up for Williamson:

nov 25 - 3 tests west indies (h) (H: 72.6)(a: 51.33)
may 26 - 1 test Ireland (a) (N/A)
Jun 26 - 3 tests England (a) (h: 54.4)(a: 25.50)
nov 26 - 2 tests india (h) (h: 38.14)(a: 33.50)
dec 26 - 4 tests Australia (a) (h: 27.44)(a: 42.84)
jan 27 - 2 tests sri lanka (h) (h: 114)(a: 29.54)
mar 27 - 2 tests Pakistan (a) (h: 54) (a:77.00)

I think if he smashes England away and Australia away next year it'd give him a lot more credibility. His record against South Africa away (21.2) is bad but he's played 4 tests there and the last was 2016, so I'd be fine almost throwing that out tbh. Playing well at home against India as well to push his overall to 40+ against them. But away vs. Sri Lanka, South Africa, India will always be poor unless he keeps going past this schedule.

His away avg going down in Wi, up in Eng, and down in Aus would be my guess. And he'll probably be around his avg vs Ind at home.

It's home tests against West Indies, not away. I would be surprised if his away record against England doesn't improve quite a bit looking at what he's doing in county cricket. Australia's attack will be getting on by late '26. Starc nearly 37, Boland 37, Hazlewood 35, Lyon 39.

I really do wonder what Williamson has done to attract such interest in whether he's in one tier or another. There really are some immovable opinions on such an unimportant contrivance.

A fact is that he's unparalleled as a batsman for New Zealand. And yes, I include Martin Crowe in that (what a parlous record in India etc.) and this sort of regular thread is just a load of nitpicking.

I don't even like these overpaid, oversexed and over here damn batsmen so curse you all for unleashing my keyboard in defence of one of these feckless fainéants.
