Is 2020s worst era for spinners since 80s?

Not sure why you’d think this but rate someone like Mujeeb, who only had 1 unsuccessful test (which was his only FC match) and is worse in both ODIs and T20’s. Compared to Rashid who is far superior in both those formats and actually has both a good test and FC record.
It is because of the carrom ball. Pretty sure Migara himself bowls the carrom ball quite often. And as a bowler who very often snakes his carrom ball into the right handers, Mujeeb might just be the perfect bowler for Migara.

This is pretty much true and proof is in the icc rankings. Only 2 of the top 12 test bowlers are spinners while 9 of the top 12 t20 bowlers are spinners.
9 of the top 12 in ODIs are also spinners. Crazy that we seem to have opposite problems in Test and Limited overs cricket, with seam being the thankless art in the latter.

Spinners dominate the T20 rankings mostly because they bowl the easy overs. It's pace bowlers who bowl in the power play and death overs and therefore end up taking a lot more punishment.

If spinners were forced to bowl power play and death overs then there would probably only be a couple of them in the top 20 rankings.

Of course, its no secret I’m no expert on shorter formats, but if Mujeeb’s record is stellar then what is Rashid’s?
I already conceded that Rashid is the better shorter format bowler. I assume most of the teams around the world will have Mujeeb as their lead spinner in tests.

Even Afg would have Rashid.
Ind: Kuldeep
Aus: Lyon
Nz: Ajaz
Sa: Maharaj
Eng: Dawson (Mujeeb arguably)
Sl: Jayasuriya
Pak: Noman
Wi: Motie/Warrican (Mujeeb arguably)
Ban: Taijul/Mehidy
Afg: Rashid

And your assumption is wrong.
I am not comparing Rashid vs mujeeb. I am just saying latter is a top class spinner. I am pretty sure he is better than Shoaib Bashir, Jomel Warrican, Army of Bangladeshi left arm spinners, any Zimbabwean spinner, Ajaz Patel, or recent NZ spinners. Heck I'd have him over Prabath Jayasuriya.

He's not better than Taijul, Ajaz or Jayasuriya

Let's agree to disagree. In my eye, he has plenty of goodies to survive on difficult tracks.
I’m confused as to what you’re making this assumption on though? Is it the carrom? Since he has performed worse than Rashid in everything, what is it exactly that makes you think he would perform better in the long run in tests?

Is the argument here that spin bowling in the 2020s is actually better than we think because of a guy who took only one test wicket in the only test he ever played, which also happened to be in 2018?

Wouldn't say there is a lack of spin but definitely a lack of mystery/leg spin. Free up watching Warne, Murali, Kumble, mustaq ahmed, ect. Now its just offspin or left arm spin in tests.

Might be different if Afghanistan actually got to play any decent amount. Seems to be the only side that has some.
