I think quite a few of the Sri Lankan's are like that, remembering back to the Top-End tour, they showed those stats fairly frequently...
yes but most of them have better stats away from home than mahela does....

Sangakkara can bowl a bit?

And why move him from where he's had great success (ie number 3) ?
Something I agree on.

I can't remember, if ever when Sangakkara has bowled a ball in Test cricket.

If he keeps he should bat at 5, if he doesn't 3 is for him.

Samaraweera probably has one of the highest inflated averages in Test cricket.

Correct. Apparently he's an offie but he hasn't even bowled a ball in Tests and has only bowled 12 FC overs taking 1 wicket at 32.00

Sangakkara can bowl seam-up and fingerspin, let me assure you. I've seen it, albeit only in the nets.
And you are far too obsessed with this stuff about moving positions. Just because someone has been successful at three doesn't mean they have to stay there at all costs. Change something if you think you can make it better, not unless it isn't working.
IMO Jayawardene at three, Sangakkara captain is the better option. I don't think Atapattu will make as good a captain as Sangakkara. As I say, I think there is a lot of Ranatunga in Sangakkara. And his strokeplay is even better looking.

So you have a proven success in a spot, yet you want to move him, and someone else who is also settled in a different spot?

There's no grounds for doing it, and IMO number 3 is almost as specialist as opening is - yet you yourself have argued against moving someone to open when they're succeeding elsewhere...

IMO it's not - Sangakkara would do best for Sri Lanka batting at five and captaining the side if you ask me.
And Jayawardene has already proven he can bat at three.
And certainly I don't think it's in the long-term best interests of Sangakkara to keep wicket and bat three. I think his career will be cut shorter if he keeps doing that for much longer.

i think sangakarra has done well in the recent past due to the fact that he's been given more responsibility. bruce yardley mentioned once that he should bat lower down cause he keeps all day but later found that sangakarra actually requested to bat at 3 in test even after a whole day in the field keeping. One must remember their are some that crumble under pressure and others who thrive on it, kumar may just be one to thrive on the situation.
From the comments and suggestion i've picked up from the stump microphone, i've noticed sangakarra has good leadership skills and good ideas aswell. However it really does not matter who captains in the SL team as they work as one outfit sharing and passing on ideas to their captain, they think as one and unlike other teams marvan the current captain does not work on his own will.

Very true Sangakkara wants to bat at three but the question in my mind is not how does he feel doing so now but how will he feel in 7 years' time having done so for 10 years?
IMO it would be best, if Sangakkara is to keep wicket, for him to bat five, and certainly if he is to captain.

sorry richard that doesnt make sense, in 7 years kumar would be well out of the game and out of his prime. his prime as a player and key contributor is now. If he isn't allowed to bat in a position he feels confortable in, his confidence will slowly drop.
Lankans are known to consult their players and play according to their comfort levels. kumar loves it at 3 and in time he may prove to thrive at three.

Well he's already proven to thrive at three, there's no doubting that.
But if handled properly I believe he could thrive at five for at least the next 10 years.
If he bats three and keeps I'd give him 5 more years of his current standard at best.
For me that'd be a huge waste of a marvellous talent.
