He ****ed up his back. Going to be out for a while.Pandya hasn't played a lot since the England series, has he? I thought he was really coming into his own with that 5fer.
Mankad v JadejaIt's amazing how much bowlers' individual stats can be protected if you have good squad depth and the luxury of picking bowlers according to conditions and not having to play them through poor form/fitness. India's selectors and team management have done a good job over the last few years.
Agree with first part of the post. Disagree with selection in general being good. Poor selection is why we lost the series in SA. It still hurts. It's amazing how much bowlers' individual stats can be protected if you have good squad depth and the luxury of picking bowlers according to conditions and not having to play them through poor form/fitness. I hope he doesn't play tests. He is neither among top 4 bowlers nor top 6 batsmen in any conditions. Bowling cushion is nice to have but not worth sacrificing a specialist batsman in tests. In limited overs 5th bowler is a must have so that's a different story.Pandya hasn't played a lot since the England series, has he? I thought he was really coming into his own with that 5fer.
They get it right a lot more than wrong though. No one wanted Bumrah in Tests when they brought him in and Jaddu was considered a limited cricketer for a long time.Agree with first part of the post. They've got some things very right for which they deserve tons of credit. But the handful of selection blunders they have made have been absolutely catastrophic and have been basically the main reason we lost some of those games. They get it right a lot more than wrong though. .
Dropping Bhuvi after what he did at Capetown, playing the worst tail in living memory at Perth, the Umesh-Kuldeep fiasco in consecutive tests in England (although I wasnt against Kuldeep at the time but they clearly misread conditions in both tests)The Rohit over Rahane selection at Cape Town? I think too much is made out of that one, Rahane had an absolute nightmare series against SL only a couple of months before that and he's struggled in general over the last couple of years to hit the standards he set in his first set of overseas tours.
They were stupid to drop Pujara in England though. Saying that, Pujara was struggling to buy a run in Country Cricket at the time.
Like Siraj a lot actually. It's a shame theyve binned Bhuvi entirely from tests but hope we see Siraj get a chance soon if someone gets injured.
