Soumya any day, he's played match-winning knocks to be fair. Like those vs SA in ODIs IIRC, did get to that rapid 50 in NZ (and that ton in the test obv). And not the worst when you considering the bowling imo. He's just been awful recently but that's a diff thing. Mithun is just **** basically, has a super limited range of strokes, and it's painful to watch even when he gets to some half decent score.

This is not a fair comparison, even not taking the bowling into account. Anyone who has played at international level is greater than Mithun.

Soumya Sarkar I remember has played quite a few nice short knocks while I am yet to see one from Mithun. Finally, with decent bowling as well, it is Sarkar by a massive distance.

He also scored 50 + against Pakistan in Pakistan

LOL almost 3 dropped chances in the short highlights there lmao. That ODI one was decent tho. And horrible stats too. Soumya is at least half-decent.

Coulda won this had he stayed:

Did quite alright in NZ tbh. Plus, often has looked somewhat threatening at times with the dibbly dobblers in relatively helpful conditions with his bowling than many of their other pace ""bowlers"" lol (although that's not saying much tbf). Soumya has been just disappointing coz you know he could do better that what he is atm. But Mithun is just plain trash and his stats are a fairly accurate represenation imo

^yeah that last line is pretty much the sum of it. Soumya's a good timer with some talent, and his bowling's become useful. Mithun is a throwback to our early 00s players who were weaned on suburban standard 90s Dhaka league bowling. They might have had one or two knocks when they were completely in the zone, and managed a half century, but for the most part they were visibly, cringingly below the required standard.

Not his fault at all he keeps getting picked mind you.

Slightly surprised Sarkar's figures are as terrible as that. In my head I don't think of him as being as bad as those stats suggest he is.

Mithun's stats are as terrible as I'd expect them to be.

I find it comforting to pretend he's an actual all-rounder. 27 in tests and 32 in ODIs at a strike rate of 97 isn't bad for an all-rounder.

Which Shommo is, of course.

If you consider the skill level of the average Bangladesh seamer as a baseline, he is definitely an allrounder - or at least a "batting allrounder". He seems to have visibly improved his bowling quite a bit in the past 18 months too - it was a bit of a joke before that.

Yeah I do tbh, that's pretty much how I see him these days. I'm hoping team management have properly embraced the idea and he's now on an all-rounder's training regimen.

He obviously isn't an international opener's arsehole, but I'd happily keep picking him to bat at number 7 or 8 and bowl some wobblers. He's a natural striker of the ball and would be a decent finisher when the shine's long been removed from the ball. It would also free up some proper bats like Afif and Nurul to bat somewhere more useful.

His relatively useful bowling in those tests against New Zealand vs the actual specialist bowlers clearly struck a chord with a fair few of the Bangladesh watchers on here. It was harrowing viewing.
