Although in Kohli's case didn't win any world tournaments - unless my memory is failing me

Imran easily.
Kohli was a good captain but outside the 2018 Australia series, doesn't have much to show. India underperformed under him overseas.

In terms of captaincy mate.
Kohli has done a lot for Indian cricket. Him and Shastri were responsible for majority of good things that have happened in recent memory.
1) Employed 5 bower strategy which no one else has tried to that degree before (at least I don’t recall other captains do it that consistently).
2) Maintained constant high energy on the field. From being the most mediocre bowling unit among major teams, India became bowling powerhouse within a very short span. Kohli didn’t necessarily develop bowlers; but he demanded professionalism and high standards. Bowlers have done well under him and his encouragement and careful selection was a key to that success.
3) Actually tried to win series overseas. Previous teams were content with just home domination; and at a times seemed like they completely gave up during SENA tours. It’s under his leadership that team has earned reputation of giving fight to opposition regardless of the venue. He instilled “we can win this” attitude.
His leadership will be missed. And I reckon our golden age has ended with Dravid/ Gangualy taking over.

Imran was a weird chap he never believed in captaincy stats padding post 85 only played WI and India at home and would let Miandad/Zaheer get all the home wins vs NZ, Aus, Eng, SL.
As for this question it's really close Imran edges him on away record but Kohli home domination is insane. Imran overall slightly ahead imo

Far more dependent on talent available, so a bit useless to debate beyond series records.

It's just modern parrotspeak for cricketers, especially ones from the subcontinent. Intent, express yourself, execute the process, etc. To be fair, they're athletes, not literateurs, forced into this 24/7 news cycle era, and usually speaking in a second or third language. Only natural for them to recycle the same tired cliches.
