Having said that their batting ratings are a lot closer than 1st inspection.
Imran's role was more to build an innings, particularly towards the end of his career, while Kapil was more likely be having a slog towards the end.
That differential of 10 in the averages is almost worth nothing in reality.

Imran started out like Kapil, a late innings hitter, but got better and better and was capable enough to build an innings hence why he batted up the order. Hence the average difference is not just a reflection of roles but quality.

It's really only the mid 80s when Kapil had a stretch of top form but the only way Imran and Kapil are comparable as ODI cricketers is if you ignore the majority of Kapil's career.

No, it's not usually brought as any sort of common argument.

I consider Hadlee to be slightly better than Marshall. Lone wolf and all.

Imran also won the Nehru Cup in 89, the Champions Trophy of its time.

And it's not like Pakistan started out in early mid 80s as a strong ODI side. They took time to get into that form

What is the clear difference? Imran averages 10 more points with the bat and was a worldclass bowler until only the end of his career.

You don't have an argument aside from rating and even then that ignore most of their careers. None.
