ICC sim league IV

Teuton

International Captain
This ODI tournament has worked really well (and the defining concept of using players who never had a chance to play them might be hard to top). So ODIs are a natural fit for a sim league.

But i would enjoy a test, and maybe t20 league (3rd preference) too. Variety is a positive.

Out of interest, do you remember (approx) how many players you needed to add to the database (of the massive 16x14=224 player pool)?

jimmy101

Cricketer Of The Year
There were 28 created players in the end, all of the rest were already in the database. Which isn't bad considering there was 224 players drafted overall.

Plus I managed to create three more teams using 33 unselected players already in the database from pre 1970. (see "Jimmy's XI" in the trial matches). The ATG mode in cricket captain has quite alot of depth.

A bit belatedly, here are the similar stats from the Super 10 stages:

Top scorers:
212: Norman O'Neill (sr 81.85)
209: Trevor Goddard (sr 67.42)
205: Bert Sutcliffe (sr 92.76)
193: Geoff Pullar (sr 92.79)
190: CB Fry (sr 77.55)

Top strike rates (100+ runs)
125.77: Les Ames (122 @ 30.50)
121.36: Chandu Borde (125 @ 41.67)
117.78: Monty Noble (106 @ 21.20)
113.49: Allan Rae (143 @ 35.75)
108.81: Patsy Hendren (173 @ 57.67)

Most wickets:
16: Allan Watkins (av 8.00, ec 4.68)
13: Allan Fairfax (av 13.69, ec 6.07)
13: Vinoo Mankad (av 14.38, ec 6.00)
12: Fred Trueman (av 14.42, ec 4.82)
11: George Hirst (av 16.55, ec 5.35)
11: Amar Singh (av 13.73, ec 4.82)

Most economical bowlers (100+ balls bowled)
3.12: Bapu Nadkarni (7 @ 9.43)
3.51: Peter Pollock (5 @ 26.00)
3.88: Mohammad Nissar (8 @ 12.12)
3.93: Tom Richardson (6 @ 20.83)
3.97: Johnny Briggs (6 @ 23.83)

An XI for the Super 10s might be:
Geoff Pullar
Bert Sutcliffe
Allan Rae
Vijay Manjrekar (182 @ 36.40, sr 101.68)
Patsy Hendren
Chandu Borde
Les Ames+
Allan Watkins
Mohammad Nissar
Fred Trueman
Bapu Nadkarni

which has no players at all in common with the "best XI of the group stages"!
Both in the group stages and here, I've barely had any players in these charts but it's somehow worked as a team. Just lucky I suppose. Pollock and May haven't been anywhere near as good as I'd hoped.

jimmy101

Cricketer Of The Year
Yeah, Pollock in particular didn't do much. He basically dominated in one of the previous sim leagues. Although his best moment might still be ahead of him.

Trumble and Bedser were pretty clutch in the playoffs. Can someone please do the hard work and calculate some statistics. Could be fun to work out who had the best overall tournament.

Team of the tournament would be something along the lines of:
Norman O'Neill
CB Fry
Phil Mead
Everton Weekes
Patsy Hendren
Jim Parks+
Chandu Borde
Jack Gregory
Trevor Bailey
Allan Watkins
Neil Adcock

Seems a bit odd to have a man who averaged 40 in Test cricket batting at 10, but he averaged 9 in this. Procter, Trueman, Nadkarni and Hirst were all close to getting picked.

Whatever it takes!!!
Very very sorry guys. Guess I deserve the loss in the finals having gone AWOL. Was on a work trip and was crisscrossing the USA interstates and timezones and frankly, did not have time to even check out the home page of the forum for the past 10 days or so. Congrats OS and great work Jimmy on running the league and special thanks to Andrew for all the lovely stats. My team definitely a 90s RSA or the more recent mid 2010s India. Awesome looking group stage performances followed by choking in the semis or the finals. :(
