Hyped Australian bowlers in Shield cricket

Bird is an average bowler. I have seen him play in multiple Tests where he was bowling at the pace of Vinay Kumar and everyone knows about Sayers, He was so bad that Paine had to bring himself up while he was bowling. Jhye Richardson would have been much better choice than him in that Test

Vernon Philander bowls at the same pace as Vinay Kumar, or less even. Maybe you should find a point somewhere. I don't think you've watched enough of any of Bird, Sayers or Richardson (especially the latter two) to form any sound judgement about their ability.

The next bowler to be given an opportunity could be Tremain. Hopefully he performs though.

Australia really don't need to give pace bowlers any lengthy stint if they fail at Test level.
yeah this is the main problem. you don't get 10 tests in 5 months to prove your stats. you may get one test, like Hastings and McKay

The thing is that injury has actually depleted Australia's backup bowling stocks quite significantly.

Pattinson
Behrendorff
Coulter-Nile

Are all up there and are possibly ahead of Bird/Sayers but they're all injured. Pattinson is easily test standard and IMO better than Gillespie was (which puts him in the top 6 Aussie quicks of all time according to the recent AT XI game). He's got Starc's ability to pick up wickets from nowhere but is more accurate and does a bit with the ball.

And yet to get past Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins in the pecking order will be tough. Easily the second best fast bowling attack in world cricket behind Steyn/Rabada/Philander who are three ATG or future ATG bowlers.

The normal awards that everyone else has
No one here thinks Sayers or Bird are out and out stars, there's no hype about them. They're solid FC bowlers who might get called up into the national team to cover injury etc.

No idea what you're carrying on about in this thread tbh, firebreaker.

Not just Philander but M Asif wasn't quick either and, when fit, Bird is faster than them; and Kumar and Bhuvi for that matter.

Can someone please make a list of hyped Indian fast bowlers from Ranji Trophy and just copy and paste a list of every seam up bowler to have ever played in that competition?

Ftr Dale Steyn's debut Test figures were almost identical to Chadd Sayers'

So were Glenn McGrath's actually

(I still don't think Sayers is going to be an especially good Test bowler but obviously judging someone on 1 game is pretty stupid)
Exactly right. Shane Bond took 1-135 on debut too, for what it's worth.

- responding to a firebreaker post seriously

lol you kid

Never thought Coulter-Nile was anything special myself.
He's a decent limited-overs bowler

I sympathise with Starfighter, it's a bit of a learning curve to recognize who is worth taking seriously and who isn't. He's already coming off a dust up with Borges, I hope all this doesn't dissuade him from sticking around.

Mate, I really couldn't give a **** about who's serious and who's not.

Bird was seriously good around 2012-14, possibly the best quick in Aus at the time but he never got a game and spent the whole time 12th manning. Now that he's nowhere near as good just watch him get a regular spot for a while and end up with a 40+ Test average
