Cricketer Of The Year
Two batsmen with incredible careers. I think can get overlooked a bit, Viv for late career drop off, Hutton due to the whole Bradman overlapping his career.

Who was a greater batsman?

Jumno

State Regular
Viv had to face slightly better attacks-lillee, thomo, Hadlee, Botham, eng pacers, ik, Qadir, Wasim peak, sarfraz, Indian spinners, Kapil Dev

Viv for me

For some this is a quality vs quantity argument.
If I remember correctly believe Coronis thinks that Richards peak was just too brief. But I believe the quality of that peak, the savagery of his assaults added to the list of bowlers he had to face overcomes the brevity of it.

International Coach
For me it's Hutton

First and foremost he was an opener and openers face fresh bowlers with a new ball.

Secondly, his career spanned WWII thus loosing much of his career'.

Thirdly, he faced Davidson and Miller who attacked a perceived weakness - limitations against short pitched deliveries as his hooking was restricted following an injury incurred during the war.

Really need to pay attention, thought this was another Hammond thread. Will have to revisit my vote, I rate Hutton extremely highly specifically because of how he overcame his injury, his ability to break Bradman's record with him standing in the covers and the quality and variety of bowlers he faced
