Yes. I'm questioning if Akram's rep as the bowler who could do everything would be as strong if it wasn't already established before Donald debuted/got good. Akram could do more in regard to moving the ball, but Donald could do a lot (as above), plus more pace and bounce. Akram would still be thought of as the guy who could do the most if they debuted at the same time, but I'm not sure it would have been seen as as valuable if he was 1/2 guys who could do a lot, rather than 1/1.

iirc Australia and SA had a weird thing going for a bit where they’d win away series against each other but not home series.

They did, but that came after the McWarne era. SA never won a series against Australia while McGrath and Warne were playing.
