Prediction-

I think Root will definitely score a century in Australia, even two. He will end up having a good series. And in due time he will become the leading run scorer in test cricket. By 2028 or 2029, it will become less clear cut as to who's been the best batter of the generation. Some people will say Smith. Some will say Root (as he will outlast everyone and surprise people with his unending consistency, along with holding certain big world records to his name).
Agreed!

Barring injury there is no way this time he's not going back home without at least 1 century to his name. He'll be desperate for that maiden ton in Australia & he knows it's his last chance to do so & people will keep on talking about it if he hasn't done it yet breaks Sachin's record.

It's a must for him.... And I also agree that he'll probably hit 2 as well.

Hitting 1 century isn't enough... needs to back it up & I think he knows that & will be in that mindframe as well.

I'd much rather get out to Pat Cummins consistently than to Harbhajan Singh, to be honest.
Hmm… actually thinking about this generally - is it worse to have a bogey player who’s very talented or not so much?

functionally both are as bad as each other imo but getting out to Cummins can just be a resultant of him being a sensational bowler, getting owned repeatedly by Harbhajan repeatedly is more embarrassing, and I think it's easier to emulate someone like Harbhajan than it is to emulate someone like Cummins due to their vastly different skill level.

It’s pretty subjective but I’d rather fail against the average bowler than the best bowler. It’s like how I’d also rather fail against a weak team/attack but succeed against the best team/attack

It’s just my opinion though and I can see the argument for the other side.

Harry brook has been crowned as no 1 batsmen in latest icc ranking. Maybe we are seeing making of another atg with swagger of viv Richards
With Root scoring 104 & 40 & Brook failing with 11 & 23 I'm going to guess that the 18 point lead Brook had going into this test match will be reversed and now Root is on top.

If not,it'll be by the barest of margins.

Border went 4 years without a test ton before finally dragging himself across the line against the West Indies.
And still averaged around over 50 during that period, being his lean patch. He leaves everyone else discussed in this thread for dead.

Anyone saying Joe Root let alone this Brook ****wit who's been around seven seconds and has a brain fart every third dig is in the same class as Border let alone better than him, should be sent to the Hague on charges of crimes against humanity.

Just quoting this so it's bookmarked.

What a peculiar thing to say.
Few days late and I'm high on painkillers so I'm not gonna bother reading through the context of the chat again, Yes, I'd much rather get out to Pat Cummins than Harby, I'd also much rather kiss Pat Cummins than Harby.

That's fair enough.

You probably will be right & I'll say to 'Well played sir' you got it right again.

I just got this massive feeling he's going to have this massive obsession with getting a ton FINALLY with his last chance he's got and he'll probably go into safe mode after he hits a half century and do nothing stupid to throw it away when the situation presents itself.Joe knows where history will judge him if he doesn't.

You obviously remember him throwing away an easy century at the SCG those years back when he played a dumb shot on 83 to ruin everything.

Petition for Johan to kiss Pat Cummins if he wins an Ashes in England.
