Better Test Cricketer

Bob Taylor could have been Evans successor as England’s wicket keeper throughout the 70s hadn’t a cricketer of Alan Knott’s caliber stepped in

Sure.

Put Blackham there as well.
may I know why is Evans rated higher than Taylor or Knott. Obviously there isn’t any reliable stats for wicket keepers, we also haven’t seen any footages of Evans if any might be 1 or 2 dilapidated footages of his splendid catches at best? with that we can’t rate him the GOAT, then it has to be peer review? is there more than 1 reliable sources reviewing Evans to be better than both. Same applies for Blackham too, just out of curiosity.

Wisden states that Evans was “arguably the best wicketkeeper the world has ever seen.”

Bill O'Reilly: Evans is a grand keeper. On this tour he proved that he is the outstanding keeper in the world today. I have never seen a better keeper than Tallon as he was in England in 1948...but that time has passed. Evans is now the world best. That's the way things go and the way we Australians are supposed to like it. Evans reminds me always of a fox terrier. He simply cannot stand still whilst on the cricket field. He moves with short, quick steps, dives, literally dives, at the ball when it is returned badly out of his reach.

Knott on Evans:

ESPNcricinfo said:
Bedser and Trevor Bailey, who shared with him (Evans) some of England's most notable triumphs in the Fifties, considered him the best wicketkeeper they saw, ahead even of Alan Knott.
In Trueman's opinion, Binks was "far and away the best wicket-keeper in the country after Godfrey Evans" and several of those selected ahead of him were "nowhere near as good".

Jim Parks said:
"Godfrey Evans was the absolute best keeper I ever saw. He could even stand up to Alec Bedser on a wet wicket"

Evans used to stand up to wickets to Alec Bedser. That's pretty Great. Rest is mostly due to peer ratings, as there's no other way to rate a keeper so Old. He also played quite a few more matches than Bob Taylor (who was seen as superior to Knott).
