Football/Soccer - Predictions League

What interest would there be in a Football Predictions League - fixtures once a week posted on a Monday or Tuesday. I put the fixtures up, you all predict. I compare scores to results and rank you all?

Excellent idea.

I predict that the Rams will beat Reading 3-0, and that Rotherham will score 6 at Millwall.

What's that, Sue? (the missus) You say you've got the football results?

Well well, what a surprise. :D

I'm in. What would the rules be, as we run one at school based on odds calculated through league positions.

i.e.
1st v 2nd - Home 2.0 Draw 2.5 Away 3.0
1st v 20th - Home 0.4 Draw 3.3 Away 4.6

The way I ran one a few years ago was you had to choose 10 matches from the Premier and Division 1 - if you got the result correct (home, away, draw) you got 1 point. If you predicted the scoreline exactly you got a bonus 3 points, and if you got the scoreline correct when there were more than 3 goals in the game you got a bonus 1 point per goal (over and above the 1 for getting the result).

i.e. on yesterday's games if you said that Derby would beat Reading 2-0 (correct score was 3-0) you would score 1 point.

If you correctly predicted 3-0 you would score 1 + 3 = 4.

Similarly, in the Millwall v Rotherham game (correct score 0-6) if you said 0-1, 1-4 or the like you would score 1 point, if you actually said 0-6 you would score 1 + 6 = 7.

I'm already running one in a newsgroup, and the rules would be the same.

Basically 4 points for spot on.

3 points for right margin of victory or a draw 1 goal out.

2 points for any other correct outcome prediction.

It'd be mainly based on the English Premier division fixtures, but would contain a few top games from Europe as well.

I'll post the first fixtures and deadline tomorrow, and we'll see how many take part.

Round 1 has closed, and the scoring has commenced.

Round 2's fixtures will be up on Monday.

There may be a case for pulling the deadline about a bit as one of the games is on Friday. If so, I'll work out how best to do it.
