I couldn't really give you my ideal team for the first test at this point in time, early season championship form will determine a few batting spots and potentially the third seamer. I will say that I think Prior is still the best wicketkeeper batsman in the country. As Marcuss said, while there may seem plenty of alternatives, many of them have serious shortcomings in their resume. If Prior had a disasterous early season then I guess I'd go with Davies or Kieswetter. Both reasonably seasoned campaigners but still young enough to be a long term option, and both have international experience. I'm a major Buttler fan, but really a test spot at this stage is just too early IMO. He needs at least one really strong season in the Championship, which both of the former two have had in recent years, to prove he's got the First Class capabilities. Give him the calendar year in the ODI's though, no matter what.
Strangely enough I would actually seriously consider the dual all-rounders option. Strange because I've never usually been a big fan of all-rounders and would almost always want who I consider the best six batsman and the best four bowlers (assuming a spinner first into that category). But England haven't had a successful third seamer since 2011 (baring perhaps Bresnan in the home Ashes) and haven't had a good sixth batsman since the 10/11 Ashes. I'd be seriously tempted to just but Woakes and Stokes either side of the wicketkeeper respectively. It might theoretically mean a weaker number 6 and weaker third seamer, but it would give serious batting depth and lots of bowling options. As explained above I have my doubts about whether it would actually weaken the #6 and third seamer as well.
Panesar will have to do the spin duties. Not the greatest idea to trial a new spinner during an Asian summer and no candidates stick out at the moment either. I'd pick a new opener as well probably, whether it be reverting back to Compton or playing Robson or the like.
