I want to know what drugs McCullum was on when he saw that video of Bashir "ripping it up" versus Cook a few years ago and thought "this guy is going to hold down our test team for the next few years"

As I say, if this happens Blessing Muzarabani will scalp him, looking forward to it.and most likely will be the 50 that retains his spot for the foreseeable future
One theory is that he bowls similarly to Lyon and they’re giving him experience for the AshesI want to know what drugs McCullum was on when he saw that video of Bashir "ripping it up" versus Cook a few years ago and thought "this guy is going to hold down our test team for the next few years"
The former, anyone can edit Wikipedia after all!One theory is that he bowls similarly to Lyon and they’re giving him experience for the Ashes
Then you have others claiming that he’s been loaned out because he might not be the 3rd best spinner at Somerset
Ha! was a good chase. I feel slight better than last week, We are going to struggle but great match from Ethan BrooksSorry @chris.hinton, I cursed you!
I would suggest that they saw the potential for him to extract bounce on Australian pitches. However, despite a promising start in India, it would be ridiculous to suggest that he's done anything other than struggle in the last couple of test series and off the back of his domestic form, he'd be a dreadful pick for the forthcoming India series. I do pragmatically suggest that we pick Leach for that series, but like one or two others, I really don't think he would be a good pick for Australia. One theory is that he bowls similarly to Lyon and they’re giving him experience for the Ashes

Back in the 1980s I recall a similar Yorkshire v The Yorkshiremen at the Scarborough festival.Lancs should play an end of season Past v Present charity fundraiser and invite:
Hameed, Davies, Procter, Guest, Reece, Simpson, Clark, Lamb, Parkinson, Morley, Gleeson. 12th man Rob Jones if an overseas needed try Hasan Ali
I get that, and I also get that the County Championship is not necessarily the best training ground for a spinner, but you can’t ignore his figures at county level. What confuses me is that Jack Carson, not a small lad himself, never seems to be in the conversationI would suggest that they saw the potential for him to extract bounce on Australian pitches. I would like to think that Carson must at least come into consideration, if he continues to do decently in the CC. As I said in my earlier post, I can't see how Bashir can stay in the side.I get that, and I also get that the County Championship is not necessarily the best training ground for a spinner, but you can’t ignore his figures at county level. Another Sussex name who is pushing himself back into contention is Haines, now the leading scorer (and by some margin) in Div 1. Although, the fact 4 Sussex batsmen are in the top 12 might give an indication as to pitches they've been enjoying.I would like to think that Carson must at least come into consideration, if he continues to do decently in the CC. I have noted his start. An issue that was suggested by one of the hacks is that he appeared to struggle a bit against the short ball v Atkinson despite a very slow Hove pitch when I read a match report.Another Sussex name who is pushing himself back into contention is Haines, now the leading scorer (and by some margin) in Div 1. Only issue with Haines is probably his similarity to Duckett, a stocky left hander who will attack anything wide of his off stump.
I've watched him bat a lot, I'd be far more concerned about him nicking off than being troubled by a short ball.I have noted his start. Bashir and Ahmed got a go in the Test team, various spinners have played for the Lions in the last year, yet Carson hasn’t (has he played for the Lions or England age group teams at all?), I would have thought the Lions would have been a good chance to experience different pitches and different opposition from CC style pitches and oppoI would like to think that Carson must at least come into consideration, if he continues to do decently in the CC. He has played for the Lions (took 9 wickets in 2 matches in Galle 2 years ago). I'm kind of surprised that Ireland haven't tried him yet either.Bashir and Ahmed got a go in the Test team, various spinners have played for the Lions in the last year, yet Carson hasn’t (has he played for the Lions or England age group teams at all?), I would have thought the Lions would have been a good chance to experience different pitches and different opposition from CC style pitches and oppo
A mate of mine who has far more inside knowledge of the county scene than I do said that Carson never wanted to play for Ireland simply because Irish players are essentially regarded as overseas in the county championship (even ones from NI!) under ECB rules and therefore he couldn't take up a county (Sussex) contract as a home player. It was a reason why Murtagh retired from international cricket earlier than he might have done. He would have essentially not been able to play for Middlesex for the last few years of his career. Of course, that law would get challenged if players were wealthy enough to bring a case, but in reality that isn't going to happen. He has played for the Lions (took 9 wickets in 2 matches in Galle 2 years ago). Yeah, there was something at the back of my mind linking it to that, makes sense.A mate of mine who has far more inside knowledge of the county scene than I do said that Carson never wanted to play for Ireland simply because Irish players are essentially regarded as overseas in the county championship (even ones from NI!) under ECB rules and therefore he couldn't take up a county (Sussex) contract as a home player.
