English Domestic Season 2024

In terms of the England spinner debate we have Hartley and Ahmed not playing for their counties having been involved in the previous round. Bashir playing whilst missing the previous game. Trevaskis 82* over night doesn't look good for Ahmed.

Whilst I wouldn't want to write off Ahmed after one poor performance, especially in April, he wasn't great in India either. From memory, he was comfortably out-performed by Hartley and Bashir.

choose to bowl first in your first match, concede over 600 but answer with over 600 in kind when you bat.

next match, win the toss and bowl....

Despite me assuming he'd been rested by ECB. Ahmed is on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Hartley was your second choice spinner last season how was he going to play instead of Lyon?

Exactly. That is what everyone was saying. He would only play alongside Lyon. Wells 8-0-31-2 doesn't bode well for Hartley's match time either. Come the Test series England's spinners will all be suffering from a lack of overs.

CA have now agreed that Lyon's 2 overs against Surrey do not count as part of his 7 match spell. It's now 7 from the next 8 including this match. One more rained off match and he could play all 9 before flying back home.

Derbyshire's Alex Thompson has a ten-fer and obviously gives it a bit of a rip. Next in line for a Test call-up? It might be the camera angle but his action looks slightly questionable to me.

What is up with the pitches this year? Seems like every game thus far has been 600 v 600.

Combination of using the Kookaburra ball and... wait for this... actually cutting the grass (at least in the matches I've watched highlights of).

Maybe our Sheffield shield groundsman could follow their English counterparts in this amazing discovery of something called a 'lawnmower' and use it on occasion.

Lawrence opening the bowling in the Somerset second innings and taking a wicket immediately. Looks like that game is only going one way.

Dukes ball next round?

We used to complain that April matches were those when Stevo could run through a team and batters couldn't make a score. Surely this situation is ideal for encouraging fast bowlers to think about their games more, because conditions in AUS and IND aren't going to be as easy as a traditional English Spring.

Can't be often someone scores 145 and it's not even among the top 3 highest individual scores in the match.

If Somerset are bowled out today for around 200, then we have the exciting possibility of Sibley and Burns batting on all four days of the match.

Elsewhere, Essex are doing their usual thing even without Sam Cook. Such an effective team.

Where's that Tom Hartley quote about India.

Shows how much the Duke is a crutch to average bowlers.

As much as the games haven't been as competitive and that's a shame.

English spinners are taking wickets everywhere and English batsman getting into the swing of things think been 30 tons already.

I'd rather we develop seamers that don't just rely on conditions. Get spinners in the game and developing and our batsman making runs on flat pitches.

3 areas that England have struggled with over the years.

Rob Key going to be sat very happy even if their are county fans/cricket journalists fuming at a piece of leather.

Watch him increase it to 6 rounds next year!!
