Really good from England. Have so many layers to this team. Could have lost this game at several junctures but kept finding ways out of it (mostly thanks to Butler tbf)
Easily the best team in the tournament. Would be interesting to see how they fare if Buttler goes early, though I think they have enough firepower to post a high total regardless. Rashid and Jordan have been so good too.

I looked up the text feed after having finished for the day and saw SL needing 10/over with 5 wickets left and our specialist death bowler going off injured. As soon as I start listening they lost five wickets for not many in 3 overs. After years of inadvertently putting the mockers on England I'm not sure what to make of this brave new world

Fielding so good to close out the game. Good to have one with a bit more pressure. Wood apparently is back so should mitigate Mills a bit

Whatever it takes!!!
Toss whingers to hopefully go quiet for a bit but maybe that's wishful thinking
They will claim it only counts at the other ground.
Do u have to pick fights even when you win? I don't think it's unfair to point out that the toss plays a huge role here between evenly matched sides. England have been better today by a big margin but damn is it silly to whinge after your team wins... England and Pak look the best sides so far and I dare suggest England wud be the better side across conditions but even they were in for a scare here before SL imploded.

The best sides can hold their nerve in tough situations and England did that here today. But let's not pretend it did not take a Jos Buttler special and a lollapse at the end from SL to get there. Batting first and winning is tough and it is silly they can't start games at 7:30 PM local time. Not sure why that has to be whinging when it is o obviously advantageous to bowl first on these tracks.

I wouldn't have thought there had been many better performances than that by England in t20 or 50 over world cups.

SL not a great side but there was a lot for England to overcome today. SL already played 3 games in the WC at Sharjah, England 0, so big familiarity advantage. Probably the worst of the 3 grounds to face SL on for England. And losing a toss that meant SL had easily the best of the conditions. And dealing with the Mills injury.

Morgan, Rashid and Jordan all with MOTM type performances, and yet clearly outshone by Buttler.

Not at all.

Its probable England would have bowled them out for 130 or less if they bowled first and then would have chased this down very easily.

England are a much superior team but Lanka winning the toss made this match much more competitive.

The toss has always been important in this format, but its simply to much of a factor right now unfortunately.

It could have been me. I woke up, put the tv on and saw those same last 5 wickets immediately fall. I have form in wanting teams to do badly and them suddenly coming good.

And yet Buttler still gets MOTM. Where's the justice?

It's been a quiet day, so I've been thinking about this a bit. The only one that comes to mind is the semi-final win against India at Mumbai in 1987, with Gooch sort of playing the Buttler role. And it's hard to rate the 2019 performances because of all the emotional baggage attached. The final win wasn't an outstanding team performance, but I suppose yesterday wasn't either. Other than that, there may have been outstanding performances in the group stage of the 1992 WC or somewhere in the 2010 T20 WC, but my memories of those games are pretty fuzzy. I'm pretty sure there's nothing else of note from the ODI WCs in 1975, 1979, 1983, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, or 2015. Did we have one impressive win in 2011 before Ireland knocked us out? Maybe something in the 2016 T20 WC on the way to losing the final.

The 2019 wins against India and NZ were both great performances after the team was put under massive pressure in the media and two losses. India started with a Rohit Sharma ton as well so they didn’t have it all their own way

There you go. Obviously too recent for me to remember.

EDIT
Yup, the scorecards suggest that you're spot on. Not least because of the quality of the opposition in both games.
