Nothing screams ‘we want you Liam’ more than being picked only because Bashir is injured, reckon it’s Bethell, with him and Root taking on the job of Bashir with the ball together

For the record, whether it's Dawson, Bethell or an extra seamer in Atkinson to come in for Bashir if he's not fit, the batting lineup would be extremely funny, just hope they don't do the boring thing and replace him with Tongue

I don't think Tongue is a Test bowler.

Hameed was very young and inexperienced when he was picked.If he is playing well enough this season he would be worth another go.

He had one comeback already, which went badly. Not sure going back to him, Burns or Sibley is wise.

Right now, the first choice would be Atkinson, Carse and Archer. And then Woakes, Wood, Cook, Potts and Tongue.

I think Wood will get a couple of Ashes tests now, if we're lucky, and then he's done. Woakes should be done this Summer tbh. Archer coming back to fitness is great, let's hope he plays another in this series.

Yup, 2 tests from Wood this winter would probably be a bonus. He's 35 ffs, no wonder his body isn't up to it much of the time.

In fairness, he's always been injury prone, even 10 years ago he could barely play 2 games in a row. A change in his run up has helped him but even so, fast bowling is incredibly demanding.

If Archer stays fit I think he will play one more and as hoped Wood will play the 5th Test

Crawley has had numerous comebacks ie after every failure he gets picked again for the next Test

I know he's injured his non-bowling hand, but it says a lot that Bashir isn't likely to be on this innings on a 5th day pitch that has shown reasonable signs of wear. He obviously shouldn't play next game. I don't think England selectors have the guts to drop Crawley though.

They will not drop Crawley.

At some point it takes more guts to keep picking Crawley than to drop him.

Hope we don't replace Bashir with Bethell and bat him 8. We gain nothing in spin and Bethell's wasted at 8. If Bethell comes in it should be for Pope.

No chance Crawley gets dropped either. He's locked in for Australia under this regime.
