If Archer was fit, there's no way Potts is ahead of him though.

Absolutely no doubt he's in terrible physical shape at the mo and simply cannot be relied upon to bowl more than 25 overs a day.
Be shocked if he ever plays red ball cricket again let alone tests. So that's a big if.

Archer sent home and replaced by Jordan in IPL
Does like 'like for like' replacement have to be as pedantic as 'West Indian fast bowler who plays for England'?

He seems to have bowled very quick when he's played. He's just not been fit enough to play much.

He never bowled consistently fast in limited overs, relying a lot on varying his pace. I think he was getting it over 90/145 at times in the IPL but guess if you're straining for pace, you'll sacrifice accuracy. Also, all those slower balls will put a lot of strain on his elbow.
Does he have the equivalent of a Tommy John injury?

I don't know, and he'd be angry if we found out. There's myriad options as to what it could be, we don't even know if it's a bone thing (remember he got an elbow stress fracture), joint thing or ligament thing.

Are you insinuating something about the legality of his action?...
Not at all, more pointing out that he puts more strain on that part of his body than other quicks (his run up is fairly laboured compared to the pace he can generate).

Well there's actually a lot of truth to the idea his pace comes from the elbow, because he uses a quite remarkable hyperextension, which likely is a big part of why he can bowl so quick.

The fact that he's been getting elbow injuries makes me wonder if there are some unusual stresses generated because of this.

Yep, I'm certainly no bowling technician, but I've watched him bowl a lot for Sussex and England and the pace he generates always amazes me.

I suspect you are correct about the unusual stresses his action creates, and sadly, it seems he's struggling to ever be that same bowler from pre 2020 again.

2-5 from 8 overs for Anderson, 7 and lbw Barker for Crawley (although should be noted Kent are 56-4 so he was hardly alone in failing).

Bairstow next man in for Yorkshire on what looks easier batting conditions the further North you go.

Stone out injured, though I doubt he was ever going to play.

Unless Archer is fit (which seems unlikely) Anderson, Broad and Robinson is pretty much the only logical attack anyway.

Wood (IPL) and Potts (20 wickets at 24 in the CC) the next cabs.

Neither should come within a cooee of playing over Robinson, so I'm not sure what your point is. OTOH Archer had a case to do so.
If the decks end up being like stokes requested and stokes isn't fit to bowl I think wood over broad is understandable, no other situation it should happen unless archer is miraculously matchfit and has some recent red ball games to his name.

I suspect Robinson would drop out instead of Broad. Not saying it's the right choice, but think it's more likely.

I hesitate to make a judgement on Potts before the series because these things have a habit of coming back to bight, but what I've seen of him he's a classic ordinary English seamer so flat pitches would be less to his liking.

Robinson is almost first seamer on the team sheet, which makes sense in England, less so in Brisbane! Woakes is another to be factored, he's actually probably ahead of Potts, slipped my mind.

I really hope since he's unlikely to be fit to bowl.

Then he's got on the blower to the grounds to ignore his previous request for roads.
