Bowling look crap in first warmup vs India. Without Archer there have to be major concerns about it. Not sure the batting is good enough in these conditions to make up for the inadequacies of the bowling unit.

Other than Rashid I don't see any of the bowlers as definite yes or no in the side, which just about sums it up.

May have to use spin in the powerplay. Only Willey and Woakes are powerplay bowlers and Woakes tend to be fodder in t20. 6 months ago I doubt either were expecting to be in the squad, let alone the team.

Mo will probably play as one of the only england players who did ok in the IPL, although he too didn't play vs India in the summer.

Jordan and TCurran similar types. Bowling erratic but lower order batting and decent (or very decent in Jordan's case) fielding keep them around the side.

Mills and Wood the pace.

Tough to know how they go.

Batting I guess MOrgan and Malan the issues.

Yeah Archer a huge loss. He's our only really reliable quick in this format. Everyone else is capable of having good days but bound to go round the park on others. Maybe Mills can step up but he didn't even play the first warmup.

SCurran injury with Stokes already out is a big blow too. I guess it means either Woakes or Willey at 7 to balance the side.

Assuming we want to play 5 bowlers supported by a bit of spin from Ali/Livingstone (a bit sad that Ali's relegated to 'decent part timer' status, but that seems to be his T20 role), then we need to fit 7 batsmen into 6 slots. Despite his ICC ranking I think it's Malan who ought to miss out. I really hope it isn't Livingstone.

Something like:

Roy
Buttler
Ali
Bairstow
Livingstone
Morgan
Willey
Woakes
Jordan
Rashid
Wood

Mills for Woakes or Willey would probably improve our death bowling at the expense of some batting depth, which I'd be ok with.

The skipper has said dropping himself is a possibility and he really doesn't seem in good nick right now.

Sawn off today in the warm up (smashed it into his pad which Erasmus decided to ignore and call it leg before), but looked far from fluent for his 10 from 11.

Yes Morgan in a bad spot.

Could maybe see him dropping himself if they lost to Windies and he failed.

It doesn't help that Malan has question marks over him too.

I think most of us think that Malan probably isn't in the best team in these conditions, regardless of his number 1 posn in the t20 batting rankings. Unfair yes given his record but that's just the way I feel. It's a big decision to make though and it's harder for Morgan to make it now that his position in the side isn't assured.

I think right now they like to have Root there. Having Morgan and Malan in the middle order when both look scared batting against spin in the middle overs makes England vulnerable.

So, I don’t keep up with T20 cricket as much as I do the other formats but looking at this England side, we seem to have a lot of bases covered. Some serious hitting capabilities in there, Malan to act as the glue if needed, Rashid and Ali as main spin options with support from Livingstone. Serious pace from Wood and Mills, skills with the new ball from Woakes, death bowling with Jordan and another. I’m fairly confident based on this squad.
