Drop Vaughan, keep Strauss

Swervy

International Captain
Firstly, should Cook succeed at county level in one day games, the respone should be a resounding "so effing what, he's a class above them anyway"

Secondly, precisely and it did their test careers zero harm by doing so.
just to add a few facts to this:

In the last 2 years, the scores Cook as amassed in List A games including international games are (with balls faced in brackets)

29 (39)
28 (51)

So given that he has form, youth, and talent on his side, there can be no excuse for his omission from the side in the immediate aftermath of this WC - unless, of course, the selectors are paranoid that he'll be another Vaughan8-)

Heh, wouldn't England be the laughing stock of the world if they dropped their captain? The thing is, Vaughan should keep his opener slot, and start to play aggresively. He cannot lose anything more, he's on the brink now, so give him a couple more games usuing a different plan of attack. I do agree that strauss should replace Joyce though
They're already the laughing stock of the world in ODI cricket, their top three is pathetic and if they didn't have Pietersen and Collingwood to rescue them all the time then they would be even more woeful. Like open said, I don't think Vaughan has even tried to adapt his game to suit ODI cricket, atleast not noticably so why would he start now?

Some impressive performancers there, have all of them been as an opener? He's only posted three 50+ scores and hasn't registered a century, although he does seem to atleast get himself set before going out. That 11 being his only real failure.

Haha, was watching the game and thought that you'd give no credit to the bowler.

Neither ball was wide enough to let the batsman free their arms. The only real way of scoring a boundary off it would be to pull him, and I think it's fair to say that Tait's as tough a bowler to pull in the world. The only way to keep a "straight bat" to that delivery would be to have their hands pushing away from their body, and would have just dead-batted it.

The mistake they made, I guess, was in playing at the ball in the first place. But you can't blame them too much for that in a one day game.
They were both at a stage of their innings where to leave would have been best.

At least, that's what I consider.

It's nice, but it's still just 10 innings (and TBH the first 3 are neither here nor there, so that's 7 really).

It'd be nice if 7 innings made a player, but it doesn't. It's just, as I say, a mildly encouraging sign.

As said, don't really think we could be too much more of a laughing-stock than already, but there is precedent for captains being dropped.

I think Vaughan has tried, many times - and all that's happened is a different set of problems have presented themselves (as they almost invariably do when a batsman tries to do what is not natural to him).

Hmm, I haven't really seen his tactical ability come through in ODIs. Surely there is a point where no matter how good a captain you are, averaging 26 is acceptable?
And it's even lower when you consider only ODI-standard sides.

Vaughan is a pretty good ODI captain, IMO, TBH, but no - no-one can ever justify a place as a specialist skipper in my book.
