Does Jadeja make your India ATG XI?

Given that you already have two likely allrounders in Kapil and Ashwin, does Jadeja make it? And if so, what is you ATG XI?

Ashwin isnt an all rounder. He takes Kumble’s spot. Kapil is also a different type of all rounder to Jadeja.
And as of yet we don’t have quite the 4th pacer option (Ishant? Srinath? Zaheer?) really worthy of being in the ATG team, so Jadeja makes it easily.
If we get a 4th seamer of the quality of Bumrah, then it’s a shoot out between Kapil and Jadeja for that spot, or Jadeja and Ashwin for the other spot, both of which Jadeja likely loses.

So who are your bowlers as it stands?

In Asia - Jadeja, Kapil, Ashwin, Kumble, Bumrah
Outside Asia - Jadeja, Kapil, Ashwin/Zak, Shami, Bumrah

This will be my bowling attack based on the conditions.

Bumrah, Jadeja and Kapil makes it to the XI in most cases.

Ashwin is the first name in Asian conditions and Kumble is also a must in Asian conditions. That complete your 5.

Outside Asia, third pacer is a must so Shami joins Bumrah, Kapil and Jadeja. Now, second spinner is a toss up between Ashwin and Kumble but Ashwin is probably a better batter, which gives him a slight advantage. In conditions where there is nothing for spinners, you simply go with left arm pace option of Zaheer Khan, thus allowing India to play pace quartet.

Top five pick themselves, as do Bumrah and Kapil Dev. So it’s really a battle for four spots. It’s hard to pick a side for home AND away given that for most of Indian history, they really struggled winning away due to a lack of pace bowling options.

I think my “SENA” side would be:
Gavaskar
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Kohli
Pant
Jadeja
Dev
Kumble
Zaheer
Bumrah

Home might be:
Gavaskar
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Kohli
Dhoni
Dev
Ashwin
Kumble
Bumrah
Bedi

Would be difficult to pick a combined side.

India already have sufficient lower order batting strength to justify not having Jadeja and picking Kumble, a notably better bowler

I actually will pick the exact same side, but replace Bumrah/Zaheer (rotate) for Jaddu where 3 spinners are warranted.

3 spinners are never* warranted

*having said that in this very specific case, given Ashwin & Jadeja's batting, picking both + Kumble is reasonable
