Its very sad, England’s the only team whose pre-1970’s XI would destroy their post-1970’s XITwo likely members of a post-1970 England XI. But who's the better batsman?
Post 1970s English team would be like (if counting debut post 1970):Pietersen’s overrated but he’s clearly better than Gower.

Yeah but England's pre 1970 team are giants of cricket , only Australia with Bradman in it could challenge that team.Pietersen’s overrated but he’s clearly better than Gower.

Pietersen
Prior
Stokes

Really like Stewart opening and Russel keeping, oddly enough England in the 90s didn't. With Underwood not eligible (Would make Snow too, if we're talkingt people debuting before 1970), honesty I would probably just have Greig bowling spin and put Broad or Fraser in and maybe Robin Smith as an extra bat.To challenge this XI I would play :
1.Trescothick
2.Stewart
3.Trott
4.Bell
5.Thorpe
6.Greig (C)
7.Flintoff
8.Russell (WK)
9.Edmonds
10.Gough
11.Snow
England in the 90s couldn't select their way out of a paper bag so i'm not surprised they got that one wrongReally like Stewart opening and Russel keeping, oddly enough England in the 90s didn't. I suppose you could go for Miller or Ali, instead of Smith, but it really shows how bleak are spin options other than Sawnneh and Deadly.
Anyway, Thorpe-Gower-Pietersen for me, so I'm putting Thorpe in the first x1
