For me Dippenaar epitomised why SA always lost* in the late-90s/early-00s. Despite having such gun all-rounders and a relatively strong fast-bowling attack their batting in general was so underwhelming.

Hard to win Test matches when you're throwing out Dippenaar at no. 3 when your opposition has Langer/Ponting/Waugh brothers/Martyn etc. in the corresponding positions.

I loved Dippenaar. He would waste so many balls for SA in ODIs.
Which is why his knock in that 434-438 game was just as instrumental as other top performers in that innings.

Had he consumed more deliveries that would have killed SA's chances completely.

Haha yep. Basic bitches look at SA having Kallis and Pollock and wonder why they didn't dominate, then conclude it's because Pollock was not top tier and Kallis was selfish.

It's because SA had 9 absolute superstars then 3 total spuds like Dippenaar at any given time.
