Strike overcome New Zealand tourists | Sport | NT News | Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia | ntnews.com.au

TERRITORY cricket has claimed an international scalp with the Strike toppling the New Zealand under-19s by 61 runs.

The Territory's 9-313 yesterday when batting first at Marrara was too much for the Kiwi batting line-up, despite a 118-run opening stand from openers Rakitha Weerasundara (62) and Henry Collier (100).

The pair looked like running down the 314-run target on their own until Weerasundara hit a return catch to NT spinner Udara Weerasinghe.

WEERASUNDARA: Looked good again, offered another c&b to a spinner

Well, there's Tom Blundell who was in our 2010 U19 team at Lincoln, and David Collier is the ECB chief executive.

Or else it's because you're known for making blundering posts, and also grew up on a farm with collies.

Unfortunately our Hebou Garamuts are in deep trouble. 9/60 chasing 137 for victory

Yeah, that's a horrible loss, even having Buchanan as coach couldn't get them over the line. Not a very good Australian side.

Northern Territory to bully the bowling attack like a much older brother again on Friday apparently.

Lighting quick pitches surprised everyone at the tournament according to the Aussie coaching PNG, as fast as he's seen since Perth in the glory days. Anyway, apart from McClure being our best bat, very predictable results as it turned out.The Indian players who were around for this last year in Vijay Zol and Kuldeep Yadav now completely dominant. Australia much weaker. McDermott's a promising keeper/bat, Doran's really young, but you'd say none of their guys will be making A squads (like Cummins. Sandhu or Agar) within the next year.

Weerasundara, Hunter and Dane Watson were three of the four I'd have had as good bets for a 2014/15 domestic contracts list, and they were the key players in the one win. It will be interesting to see how Weerasundara juggles the fact he's a Wellingtonian Sri Lankan when he's facing a lot of spin in Dubai next year, which wins out. I'd move him down to No. 4 and ask him to take his sweet time in the middle overs, play the role the other guys will be too rural to fulfill.
