It's very, very rare that I've seen any players, for example Craig McMillan of New Zealand, touring with an an A side when they were struggling for form and about to be dropped. A side tours are for the up and coming, not those who are struggling already. It's no use to have someone struggling for form against the best in the world to have them perform against the second best. That's like saying "this is how good you are - you're an A-side guy/girl." Whereas someone who has proven themselves at A-side level and hasn't played test level is still an unknown at test level. Better to go for someone who might be in test-level form than someone who has recently shown they simply aren't.marc71178 said:What I'm trying to say is that any fringe XI players that didn't go on tour should by definition not be replaced by anyone on tour (since their place was deemed secure enough that they wouldn't need to go onn the tour to prove themselves)
You pick sides to win, not to struggle, and if our team struggles to win, then changes may well have to be made, anyway. It's not pleasant for the top guys, but that's the way of the game, especially for a nation with only eight seasons of domestic cricket behind it.
