CW Awards for 20 - 26 August

Guess this is a convenient time for everyone concerned, really, then.

This, then, shall be the last Awards until further notice.

I'll say it again - at some point, Sean, Akhil, Manju, Blake, Heath - I shall be in touch and I certainly hope we can re-create the core panel again. Until then, thanks a bundle guys, and to Marc, MU, Mr Gelman, and everyone else (even Rodgie and "Dravid") who took upon roles in bygone days too.

Shame, but yeah maybe a break is a good idea, the awards don't interest me as much as they used to.

Obviously the peak moment for the awards was when I won the Afridi. Or maybe when I won the Sir Geoffrey. Or the Skull. I'm not fussy.

may be u should reduce the frequancy of the awards make it fortnight
We could reduce the frequency PLUS we could ask members to actively send nominations for awards. This is not to say that the awards should be given based on 'universal sufferage' but more so as to save the 'volunteers handling this from needing so much time to go through every thing.

Once a fortnight is certainly good. If thats too much we could even have monthly awards. This will of course reuire even more posts to be seen but at least only once a month.

It will be a shame if the awards were discontinued most of all because they are a good source of links to the good posts one may have missed.

There's no way on Earth I'm allowing them to be discontinued completely - over my dead body, TBH, and I'm sure Sean would say a similar thing.

However, given near-enough universal consent, I think a break for an unnamed length would be a good idea. I'll put it to the poll whenever I feel an opportune moment as to "should the Awards return?"

I find the forum has been pretty quiet by what I'd call normal standards in any case the last month or 2. Why that should be I can't begin to know, as Neil Diamond once almost said, but I feel it's undeniable.

As and when things pick-up again - I'd reckon after the Twenty20 Championship :p - maybe Awards would be a good idea to reintroduce.

I was thinking of a different format, have the awards posted once a month with a selection say four posts, the winner of the poll would be declared that months Afridi winner etc for all of the awards. This idea still needs some work:)

I'd be reluctant to change TBH - I think the formula has worked very well on a weekly basis. It's often difficult enough making picks with certain Awards as it has been - there'd be heaps of quality you'd need to leave-out if the thing was done monthly.

Are you sure the consent is 'near-universal' I suspect the 'awards' are something more preople go through than actually comment upon.

As far as forum having become quieter, its absolutely true and its been the case for longer than 2 months. I am sure some of us have some ideas on why that is so and this should be discussed (off line preferably) to seek remedy/remedies.
